(This is entirely different from the fae/D&D backstory, BUT I'm thinking this will be a SIMILAR personality to the post-portal, post-learning-magic personality he will have.)
So he was born in 1913, and got drafted for World War Two. He got a buddy, John, aka Jonny-boy, and a couple of other, more distant friends in his unit. He quite liked the SNAFU cartoons.
One night, he got bit. His troop presumed him dead, and that's what his family got told.
Damien stayed a while in Europe, and he resided in East Germany for a while until the Communistic restrictions made him want to leave. And with the help of his powers, he did. He went back to America.
He appreciates new technological developments, but feels like modern-day people are largely wimps. If it wasn't for physical examinations, he'd re-enroll in the army.
Nowadays, he's working (barely) at a communications company, trying to get up the ranks to become the boss. He really values communication.
He's stuck at 26 basically forever.
