Chapter 14: Facing Facts

I put on my jacket and picked up Malachi's carseat..

"Come on Baby." I said opening the door.

"I'm coming" she said grabbing her purse

Today Kiara and I were going to see my parents. I had to keep my word.

We all got in the car and I started driving to my parents, in a little under an hour we arrived.

"I'm nervous..." Kiara said looking at me.

"Why?"

"What are they going to think?"

"Listen, who cares....I still love both of you and nothing is going to change that."

"I know."

I got out the car and walked over to the passengers side, assisting Kiara out the car.

"Come on Ma." I smiled at her as I got Malachi out the back.

We all went up to the door and I knocked.

To my surprise Trent answered "KHY!!!!!" He instantly hugged me.

I hugged him back "Hey Trent."

Next he darted to Kiara hugging her as well.

By this point my parents came to the door.

"Well what a surprise." My father said hugging Kiara and I.

"Yes it is." My mother followed suit.

"Is that the new baby?" Trent said peaking inside the carseat.

"Let them come in and get situated first." My father said opening the door more so we could get in.

I walked in and seen an extra body sitting on the couch.

"Who's that?" I ask in general.

The person turned around "I'm here on the behalf of Angie. I'm her lawyer."

"What's going on?" I ask my father.

"Join us in the living room, Umm Baby you mind taking Kiara, Trent and the baby in the other room while we speak to the Lawyer?"

My mother nodded and directed Kiara and Trent into the other room as asked.

I took a seat next to my father and looked at the lawyer.

"What are you here for?"

"My client Angela would like full custody of her child. She hopes you would just release your custody rights to avoid court. As I was telling Mr. Hinton, you'll have a week to relinquish your rights before this is taken into court."

"Hold up, I ain't making no decisions without consulting my lawyer." I said

"And with all due respect that's fair. But as I said, one week."

"Man whatever, where is Angie? How'd you know Trent was here?"

Then my father cleared his throat. "Umn, Khy.....I told her he was here."

I looked at my father like he was crazy "Your kidding me right?"

He put his head down. "I'm sorry son, your mother said I should tell her. Keeping her from her child wasn't right."

I stood up speechless, and just looked at my father.

"Khy I'm sorry I didn't know she would try and get full custody."
