It's Becoming Clearer Part 2

Start from the beginning

“About Octavian?”

“Yeah. It’s just making me remember shit, I rather not remember.” He rested his head in hands on the Island.

“Your dad and step-pops?” I rubbed his hair and kissed forehead.

“Yup. And what that shit did to me as a kid, experiencing that. I just feel like a parent is suppose to be a protector. And I felt real angry at my mom for a long time for not protecting me from some of the shit I was exposed to.”

“I know. But Octavian is going to be alright. I’m going to get in contact with his mother and tell her that we are going to keep him until she can get herself together. Otherwise, we’re going to have to go to court and get protective custody. He said they’ve been living in a car.”

“A car?” He raised his head and furrowed his eyebrows.

“Yeah.”

“What the hell?”

The sound of the kids’ feet running into the kitchen sounded like a herd of cattle.

“Stop all that running you guys.” I told them as they entered the kitchen playing and laughing.

“Sorry Mrs. Alsina.”

“Sorry Mommy.” A3 imitated Octavian.

They all sat at the table.

“Get up.” Octavian told Sata.

Aug was about to go over there. I softly pushed him back.

“Why?” Sata asked him.

“I’m supposed to pull it out for you before you sit.”

“Oh.”

She got up, he pulled it out she sat and he pulled it back out.

“Do me?” A3 stood up.

“It’s only for ladies. When you get one, you do it for your lady.”

“Ladies?”

“Uh-huh.” Octavian sat by Sata.

“Oh ok.” A3 sat back down.

“Everybody let’s thank Octavian for setting the table for us.” I said as I got the roll of paper towels and sat it on the table.

“Thank you Octopus.” A3 laughed.

Big Aug hit him upside his head.

“Pop-pop that hurt.”

“Well shut your mouth. His name is Octavian.”

“You called him Octopus. Didn’t he Sata?”

Aug looked at Sata.

“No.” She responded looking back at Aug.

“Sit in the other chair.” Aug asked Octavian to get up so he could sit between him and Sata.

“Can I sit by Sata please Dr. Alsina?” He begged.

“Please daddy?” Sata tripled begged.

“Aug how about you sit at one end and I at the other. Let the kids sit together.”

Aug didn’t want to, but he let them.

“Everyone let’s say grace.” I said.

Everyone bowed their head.

“Dear God, thank you for this nutritious meal. And thank you for blessing us with Octavian to share this meal with us. We pray your protection, grace and blessings over all of our lives. And wherever is mother is, we pray for her as well. Amen.” I concluded.

“That was a brilliant prayer Mrs. Alsina.” Octavian complimented me.

“Thank you.” I smiled and chuckled. “You know Octavian you are so well spoken to be so young.”

“Octavian is really smart mommy. He knows the capital of every state.”

“Really?” I said impressed.

“Mm-hm.” He shook his head getting a roll.

“What’s the capitol of Nebraska?” Aug asked him, while he was fixing little Auggie’s plate.

“Lincoln.”

“Impressive.” I said fixing my plate.

“Montana?” Aug quizzed him, eating.

“Helena.” Octavian took a sip of his soda. “Give me something hard Dr. A.”

“Capital of Nambia.”

“Nambia?” Sata questioned.

“It’s in Africa Sata. You should know you have an African name. And it is Windhoek.”

“Wow. Kids a genius.” August said with his mouth full.

“Can you teach me?” A3 asked.

“Of course. Especially since you’re going to be my brother –in-law one day.”

“Slow it down partna. None of that.” August eyed him taking a drink of his soda.

“I’m surprised they didn’t have you skip a grade O.” I told him.

“They wanted to. But I said no. I didn’t want to leave Sata.”

“Aww.” I smiled. “Aug their so cute.”

“Don’t encourage that.” He rolled his eyes at me.

“I think Sata would understand though O.”

“No, I would die if he left me.  Just like you die when daddy goes away.” She said with a sad pout.

The doorbell rang.

“What am I going to do with you girl?” I chuckled then went to get the door.

“Hi may I help you?” A young girl who looked about nineteen stood at my front door.

“Uh yeah, I’m here to get my son Octavian.”

“Oh… well he’s eating now. Would you like to join us?”

“No. I just want my son.” She looked down at her hands.

“Well you do know my husband found your son on the highway this morning. And you were not there to pick him up from school. I don’t think Child and Family Services would like that.”

“You going to call them on me?”

“I don’t want to, but if I have to, I will. But for now, you can join us for dinner.” I said sternly.

She looked me in my eyes as if debating if she wanted to obey me or not. Then she stepped in. I walked her to the kitchen.

“Mommmmmyyyyyy.” Octavian ran into her stomach and gave her a huge hug smiling.

“Hey baby.” She smiled, then kissed his forehead.

Aug stopped eating and looked at me.

God be with us.
