"You know her?" he inquired, completely in shock. "Like, personally?" Even though such an an inquiry would typically be one spoken with excitement and wonder, this was now underlined with tragedy. Still, she smiled, knowing something that he did not.
"I knew all of them once," she nodded, making him look even more astounded. He didn't seem to note the past tense.
"What are they like?"
Her smile suddenly turned sad, a far away look of remembrance crossing over her face. His blood staining her hands made her realize something she should have before, and she knew right then and there that they never should've convinced her to do this. She should be with them. "They said they wanted to save the whole universe, and they put in all they had to accomplish such a dream."
Looking to the horizon, shadows crossing the skies and blocking out any hint of how much time had passed, she knew that such was true despite everything that had happened.
And around them, the world burned.
