"-know the rules yes? But I'll remind you a few things, hit your opponent on the required spots without being hit yourself, halt immediately when a light was lit up to identify who touch who first" he explained in a french dawl before handing us both a saber

"Saber fencing... spot above the waist with the exception of your hands are only hits required, compris?" (Understand?)

We both nod

"Greet each other!" He did the salute proffesionally expecting us to do the same

We put our saber infront of us vertically with the tip facing up and swinging it downwards towards the right in a salute

"En garde!" (On guard)

We took our stance, with our saber pointed to each other and I swear I saw him smile through his mask which I just raised my eyebrow involuntarily as a reaponse

With our knees bended a foot forward and another foot on the back we got ready into position

"pret." (ready)

I noticed how he put most of his weight on his left leg which was on positioned on the back very slightly that I almost didn't catch it but I'm glad I did

An attacking position

I bit my bottom lip schooling my features of one of indifference

Then I have to play defense first

"Allez!" (Go!) He pressed the remote starting the 3 minute timer below us

Then as predicted he lunge rather aggresively with the speed of lightning making my lip twitch up showcasing my teeth in a smirk as he aimed for my neck

Not gonna lie but I'm impressed

I moved backwards making him miss and I attack in a 'fall short' before doing a 'beat' which I knock his blade when he got back at a counter attack earning a score for me

...Not for long

"Arrêt!" (Stop) Was heard right after his light turned on

"droit de passage! encore.." (right of way! Again...)

Wait what?

"Wait what?" I voiced out confused

I...got hit?

"Toucher... encore!" (touched) (again) coach pointed the both of us as he smiled in amazement before clapping three times "en garde!"

We got to our previous position my gaze unwavering from his face behind his helmet and jog slightly on the balls of my feet shaking the tension of my shoulders

How did I missed... getting hit?

"Pret..."

I noticed how he stayed unmoving from his stance as I got into mine

"Allez!"
