Chapter 22

Looking at me, I tried not to cry but it didnt stop the tears.

"She so beautiful Aug. She looks like Mirah when she was born."

"She has a beautiful mother." I kissed her temple.

"You want to hold her?"

Taking her, I just stared at her. Gently touching her nose and little lips, it hurt me to see my own blood like this.

"My lah G. Just like ya daddy." I smirked, wiping my tears. "Know I love you unconditionally and ya uncle got ya."

Finally breaking down, Alei took her from me. Not being able to take it anymore, I just got up and left.

Shit wasn't right, it wasn't fair. My baby girl didn't have a chance and that shit was killing me.

"Why you had to rake her from me man?" I questioned as I paced back and forth in the hall.

Hearing the door, I stopped and looked back to see the mortician pushing Alei back out.

"As soon as you are ready for collection, she's available."

Hearing those words cut me deep.

"Can I say something?"

Giving her our undivided attention, we nodded in agreement.

"I've been working here for six years now and in that time, I've seen all sorts of things, but that baby girl right there, she is special."

"What do you mean?" Alei asked.

"Your daughter has has this radiating energy from the moment she came to me."

Looking up at me, I looked at Alei.

"Then there was one point where I swore she had this accomplished smile on her face."

Neither of us knew what to say to that. All we did was nod. I wasn't going to doubt what she was saying because I knew anything was possible.

If her purpose was to sacrifice hers to save her brother's life, then who am I to question. I just wished that there was a way she could have been saved.

"Is it possible that she could have been saved?" I asked.

"From what I saw on the form, she was a still birth. Meaning she died before they even removed her."

"Oh."

"You two need to be strong for each other. I've seen couples break up because of the lost of a child but in reality, you need that support."

"Thank you so much for everything." Alei smiled.

"You're most welcome. Just remember you still have the other baby."

"Yeah." I nodded before we left.

"Up for some visitors?"

Putting our attention on the door, T stood there.

"Hey man, yeah. C'mon in."

Alei and I were laying in her bed while she held Gabe. Since we been back in the room, we've spoken bout doing an intimate service for our daughta'. Neither of us wanted to do anything major so we agreed on just our circle that knew coming ta our place and having it in that back yard.

"How y'all been?"

"We getting there." She nodded as she played with his hand.

"Well that's good."

"T man, I wanted ta ask ya something?"

"Sure Yung, wassup."

Aside from that conversation, we agreed on who were gon be tha godparents fa Gabe.

"Me and Alei were hope if you would be willing to be our son's Godfather."

"Word?" He asked excitedly.

"Yea man. You been had my back with her since before we been together, shit was only right."

"Plus, we love there rest of Y'all, but Ion trust y'all with my son growing up being a decent young man."

"You do see who his daddy is right?" Travis joked.

"Man shut up."

"All the more reasons why, I need Terrence to be that one guiding light." Alei joked.

"So its like that huh?" I looked at her.

"We got you sis." Travis and em laughed and agreed.

"Thanks though y'all. I really appreciate it."

"And well Jaz she insisted in you being godmother."

"You say that like you were against it."

"I mean." I shrugged and laughed.

"Fuck you Aug." She rolled her eyes.

"See what I'm say."

"Babe leave her alone."

As we all continued to talk, we told them about visiting our daughta' and plans for tha lah service.

Even though they were all saddened by this whole thing, we were still grateful for Gabe.

"Hungry again?"

Hearing him fuss, Alei took her time attending to him.

"Yea." She sighed.

"What's wrong?"

"I gotta feed him on this side now."

"Can't you feed him on the same side from this morning?"

"You want yuh girl ta have lop sided titties boy!" Shay intervened while everyone laughed.

"This one is more than full, but I'll be fine."

"Ya sure?"

"Mhmm."

Lifting him to let her get settled, he instantly began to cry.

"Man you better chill with all'lat." I gently rocked him.

"Give me my son. Thank you."

Seeing her close her eyes in some pain, she exhaled.

"How long again till y'all are released?"

"Doctor Sanders say we may be able to leave if not tomorrow, early the next morning."

"Any word yet on the other person?"

"An officer came to speak to me today and well we're pressing charges." Alei spoke while looking at Gabe.

"Y'all know we're all here for y'all right?"

"We do and we appreciate it."

Kissing Alei's cheek, I left her with everyone for a minute.
