August

Standing off to the side as the burse check her vitals, I was nervous. I knew what I felt. I knew it was her, I just needed them to believe me.

"Everything's the same Doctor Sanders."

"Ok. Thank you nurse James."

Nodding, she left us in the room. I couldn't believe that everything was still the same after what I felt.

"Doc, I know what I felt." I approached him.

"I know Aug and I understand. These things happen with cases like this." He looked me in my eyes. "But in most cases, its just your mind doing what you want to happen."

"I'm telling you, she moved her fingers. I know my girls touch."

"I'm not doubting that and if it did happen, based on everything still being the same where her brain function is concerned, it could possibly have a minor neuro spasm."

Sighing, I watched as he left the room. I was annoyed by the fact that nigga was doubting what I was saying.

"Momma, you believe me right?"

"August maybe he is right about the spasm?"

"Seriously! Ya gon believe them over ya own son?"

"I didn't say that Aug."

"Thats what ya just implied. Y'all think I ain't know what the fuck I felt. Alei fingers moved and when she wakes up, y'all gon be talking some shit about how I was right. Just wait on it."

Leaving the room, I sat on the chairs in tha lobby.

"Man. Why the fuck ain't nobody believeing me." I spoke to myself.

Leaning forward, I placed my head in my hands when I felt a cool breeze past me.

Looking up, I don't know what it was, but I had gotten the urge to check on Alei.

"Aug."

"Just a minute." I passed Shay and went in.

Approaching her bedside, I just too her hand in mines and spoke to her.

"Baybeh, I love you. I need you, our son needs you. Just fight through this Aleisha. I know ya hear my voice. Just fight through and come back to us."

Kissing her on her cheek, I pulled and and that's when it happened. Her grip on my hand was somewhat firm but she was holding my hand.

"Squeeze my hand Aleisha. Just how I be squeezing on that ass." I joked.

Kissing her cheek again, I smiled trying to lighten up the mood.

"Just one squeeze baybeh."

After I said that, I happened. She squeezed my hand. I was tempted to call for the nurse again but I didn't want them to not believe me.

"You gotta wake up now ma. Open those beautiful brown eyes so ya can see our son."

Heading to Hus bassinet, I lifted him. For some reason, he just wouldn't sleep. Even though the nurse had said he was healthy and good, he just laid there looking around.

"Yeen gon be weird like ya momma now are you?" I laughed lightly.

Tickling his chin, he closed his eyes and scrunched up his face before giving me what I thought was a smile.

"See baybeh. He's so beautiful." I shifted him in my arms."

As he laid there, his eyes moved back and forth between me and Alei.

"Yea son. That's ya momma. Daddy tryna wake her up so she can see ya."

Beginning to fuss, I decided to lay him on her. As he laid with his legs tucked up, he moved a bit before finally stopping.

Putting his balled up fist in his mouth, he was sucking on it with his eyes closed.

"See ma, he needs you."

Rubbing his back, I caressed her hair when on of the machines began to beep loudly.

Looking behind me, I saw the one that monitored her heart rate was moving quicker than it was before.

"Is everything OK in here?"

My mother and the nurse came walking in instantly. Moving from where the machines where, I picked up my son and he began to cry uncontrollably.

"Shh. Its OK man. She right thea." I tried to calm his as the nurse tried to find the reason for the machine going off.

"Momma can you hold him?"

Agreeing, she took him from me and began to pace as she gently rocked him. All while, I stood observing what was happening.

"I'm here, what seems to be the problem?" Doctor Sanders asked.

"I don't know. Her tubes are ok but the machine is going off."

Ignoring everyone in the room, I went back to my girl's side. Taking her hand, I placed it on my chest.

"You feel that? That's fa you ma. My heart beats fa you and Ion think I can live without ya so I need ya ts keep fighting. I know ya coming back so just come through fa us."

Kissing the back of her hand, both tha nurse and Doctor Sanders gasped when they seen what had happened.

Gripping my hand, her eyelids fluttered a bit before she opened them.

Stepping aside, she kept her eyes on me as they removed some of the tubes attached to her.

"Where." She coughed. "Where is he?"

Taken aback by her knowing it was a boy we had, my momma approached her. With the help of the nurse, she sat up a bit before taking him.

"I love you." She said in this raspy voice as she struggled to stroke his hair. "Mommy loves you Gabriel."

Hearing the name she called, I was confused but it was all put aside when I saw the tears from her eyes.

"Alei." Doctor Sanders called. "We just got to run some usual checks on you and then we'll speak to the both of you OK?"

"OK?" She managed to say.

"We'll be back."

Once him and the nurse left, I looked back at her.

"He is so beautiful."

"He is baybeh." I kissed her temple. "You had me worried."

"I'm sorry." She looked up at me.

"Got a nigga crying and shit."

"I love you too." She smiled.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Mel told me." She just blurted out.

Looking over at my mother, she looked at me the same time.

"My Mel?" She asked.

"Yea. He told me it wasn't my time and that Aug and Gabriel needed me."

"Baybeh?"

"Whether you believe me or not babe, I'm just telling you what he said."

"Did he say anything else?"

"No, but."

"But what?" I questioned.

"He was holding her in his arms. He said he'll take care of her for us just how you got his girls babe."

At that point, neither me nor my momma could have held it in. It was crazy how everything was happening so fast.

As much as I was happy to have my girl back, it still broke me that we lost our daughter through it all.

"I believe you baybeh." I kissed her.

"We believe ya Alei." My mother added.

"Ok... Time to run some tests." Doctor Sanders reentered the room.
