August

Making our way to the children's morgue, a nigga was feeling weird. Alei was in a wheelchair because of her injuries, despite trying to fight me on it.

"I don't see why I just couldn't walk."

"You gon keep arguing about that shit Alei. Yeen suppose ta be moving around much. Now hush and sit back."

"So why yuh talking to me like I's Yuh child."

"And there it is." I shook my head.

As expected, her Trini came out. I knew from the moment I got on her about this damn wheelchair, it was gonna come out.

"Whatever?"

"Ya know ya sound sexy as fuck when you speak to me like a Trini."

"I'm speaking English Aug."

"I know ma. I mean ya accent and slang."

"Mhmm."

"Cut the attitude. I know its a block."

"I don't want to go in babe." She finally admitted.

We had just pulled up at the door. Walking to the from of her, I got down to her level.

"I know how ya feeling ma, its tha same with me, but this our baby girl in thea. Its us and her."

Nodding her head, I cupped her face and kissed her forehead.

"We got each other OK?"

"Yes baby."

"Good. Now man tha fuck up!" I joked, making her laugh. "All this emotional shit fa tha birds."

"Says the ultimate cry baby."

"Shit! A nigga got feelings too." I smirked.

"I wanna feel something though."

"Aleisha Nicole!" I stood up.

"Yes August." She smiled up at me.

"I love you. Crazy ass."

"I love you more."

As I was about to knock, the door opened.

"Oh, I'm sorry." The mortician I assumed jumped.

"Its cool. We um." I cleared my throat. "We came to see our daughta'."

"The baby girl?"

"Yes ma'am." I nodded as I held Alei's had.

"Please accept my condolences. I know its hard for you two."

"Thank you." We both spoke together.

Walking over to the table, we watched as she went and pulled one of the small draws in the wall.

When she lifted her, I heard Alei made a light gasping sound. Approaching us, I tried, but I couldn't hold it in much longer. Turning my back I tried to compose myself before turning back around.

"Would you like to hold her or you want me to lay her in the bassinet?"

"Umm. I'll hold her." Alei responded.

Pulling a chair that was in the room, I sat beside Alei as she took our daughta'.

"Hi princess." She spoke in a soft tone.

Wrapping my arm around her shoulder, I just looked on. She was so beautiful despite ha paling skin.

"I love you so much." Alei cried. "I'm so sorry we had to meet like this, but just know that you're an amazing big sister for protecting Gabe."
