Something Gained

Chapter 6

"Lisa what are you doing here?" Tanner pulled me behind him, almost trying to shove me away

"I really need to talk to you in private" She tried keeping her voice down to keep me from hearing but there was no way that I was going to leave now

"Tanner whats going on?" I pulled at his shoulder, trying to get him to turn around and look at me

"Rachel, just go inside. Ill be back in a bit" he tried pushing me off towards the living room

"No, whatever she needs to say she can say in front of me" I cross my arms over my chest, making my point that I was not moving 

"Lisa can we talk about this later?" He turned to try and talk her into leaving when he realized I wasn't going to budge, he tried guiding her away

"Listen Tanner..." She stopped him in his tracks "im pregnant" 

my heart dropped to my stomach, I swear that you could hear it fall.

"what?" His voice sounded shocked with a touch of excitement 

"Im pregnant, and its your baby" she reiterated

a very audible gasp came from my mouth, I felt as though I was losing my breath and the world was collapsing on top of me

"T..-Tanner" I forced his name out of my mouth, as much as I couldn't breathe I needed to hear it from him 

"Oh my gosh, this is amazing!" he nearly shouted Wait for me in the car, I will be right there" Tanner spoke happily as he kissed this stranger, to me, on the forehead and she turned to her car

"Tanner...w-what is going...on?" I took deep breaths in between my words, trying not to let myself faint 

He quickened his pace towards the bedroom, he pulled out a suitcase from the closet and began to put his things in it

"Tanner! speak to me!" I finally shouted to get his attention 

"Rachel.." he turned to face me as most of his things were already in the suit case "listen im sorry" I put my hand on my chest, feeling my heart pound faster and faster "you know that I've wanted a family, and you just can't give me that" 

I could feel the tears begin to pool in my eye lids

"I've been seeing Lisa for a bit, and now she's giving me exactly what I've been wanting" he continued stuffing things into the suit case "a child, I'm finally going to have a child" his large smile took over his entire face, as i felt my heart literally exploding in my own body. 

I held on the the bed frame as I felt my knees weaken below me, how could this be happening?

"Tanner.." I take in a  deep breath "we've been together for 10 years" the tears begin to roll down my face "and you told me you would be right beside me" I began to weep as my heart began to let out all the emotions I was feeling in that moment 

"how could you do this to me?" I fell to my knees, I could hear my heart pounding in my own ears. I felt the warm tears fall on to my knees 

"Im sorry Rachel, but I can't do this anymore. I'm leaving you" he looked down at me before walking out of our bedroom for the last time

In that moment, I felt lonelier than ever before. I could almost hear my heart breaking as the tears rolled down my face, a million questions filled my head and the answers were no where to be found. 

This is it...rock bottom. In only a matter of weeks, I've lost everything
