That sound
It haunts me
I hear it
All the time
The sound that ended my world
And yet
I am still alive
The regret twists me up inside
My words
What I had said - what they catalysed
They echo inside my head
I escaped
I fled
I live on
Whilst he is dead
A/N - this is inspired by Tennessee Williams' character Blanche DuBois, one of the main characters in his play 'A Streetcar named Desire'. Blanche has lived through traumatic events and resorts to imagining a better life for herself - this leading her to live out a fantasy.
