Aftermath

Pulsating waves of fear and utter disbelief took hold of my mind and body as I fervently questioned if what had just happened was real, even if I knew the answer was yes.

These cumbersome feelings and thoughts were having substantial effects on my body as I started feeling nauseous or maybe it was the accelerated downward motion of the elevator I was in or both, all I knew is I didn't like it.

I looked around to make the amazing discovery that there were other human beings in the elevator and that I apparently wasn't the only one affected by this tragedy, but judging by the look on their faces they looked more like hopelessly lost human souls than actually human.Who could blame them given what just happ-...

"aah!".

Was the sound my mouth decided to make after the rather sudden stop of the elevator. The doors opened and the two strangers quickly made their way out while I collected whatever was left of myself.

Well, I was here now. In The Underground.

There were fewer people than I had expected and the few I could see, had the same lifeless look vividly painted on their faces. Their faces reminded of something or rather someone, my own face when the first attacks started happening only hours ago. 

The world we knew was gone and what remained was an entirely new world that no one knew how to possibly survive in. As I walked past the tele-broadcaster I made the fatal mistake of looking at it and my eyes almost instantly fixated on the just over one million death toll on Surface Earth.

Never has a number felt so macabre...
