"Then tell the chairman that I am Mariana's daughter and let's see what will happen." I spoke, with a tone of challenging her.
Natakot pa ata ang babae at agad na may sinambit sa intercom. Pinapasok naman ako, pero bago ako pumasok inirapan ko muna ang babae. Kala mo kung sinong maganda! Kapal naman ng make up!
"This is a very suprising visit iha." Ani ng chairman na nakarelax sa swivel chair niya.
"Surprise nga e, may surprise ba na sinasabi?" pabalang kong sambit.
Napatawa siya at napailing.
"You are very opposite of your mother. Ang laki mo na, I haven't seen you since your mother died. What brings you here?"
I smiled a little. Hesitant to say it, I reminded myself the main reason why I have to do this.
"I need a job. A stable job where I can get enough money for daily needs." I uttered confidently. Referring to my younger brother.
"What makes you think na tutulungan kita?" He raised his eyebrow. Well, I expected this question already. Pinaghandaan ko.
"It's easy, your wife will know everything. Na may anak ka sa labas. Na may anak kayo ng nanay ko. Bunga ng pagtataksil ninyo."
"We have a what?"
"A child!" I exclaimed.
Parang nabuhusan ng malamig na tubig ang chairman.
"You can have a DNA test to make sure. My mother kept it, wala ka naman kasing karapatan sa bata." Maldita kong sambit.
I hate him. He's the least person on my list to ask help with. But again, I'd rather swallow my pride just to give my brother a life he deserves.
Through teary eyes, he looked at me. May kaunting humaplos sa puso pero kaunti lang. Napakaunti lang.
"Can I see the kid?" His voice was pleasing.
I smirked.
"Never. I will never let you lay a finger even in Zeijan's hair." I said with finality on my voice. Panandaliang nakurot ang dibdib ko nang maalala ang mga nangyari sa aking nanay noon.
"Please iha. Let me support the kid financially and let me visit the child. He's a boy?"
I remained silent. Kita ko ang pananabik sa mukha niya pero hindi ko iyon pinansin. Bakit ko papansinin?
"You don't need to work. I will support you both." He said but I didn't like his idea.
Agad akong nag-isip ng sasabihin. "Give me a damn job or you will never see Zeijan. Hindi lang iyon, ilalabas ko ang baho mo." I threatened him.
He exhaled deeply. He pinched his nose as if I am giving him headache. I think he's in mid 60's. Malaki ang age gap nila ng nanay ko. Even with his age, he still looked handsome and his body is well-built but with wrinkles on his face and loose skin.
"I also dont want to work under your firm or you company so that I wont see you often." I demanded while looking at my nails.
He sighed. He slowly nod, agreeing to my plans. I wonder what he thinks of me. Does he think that I am using my brother just to get money from him? Or does he thinks that I'm using that as an excuse for my own benefit?
My thoughts were interrupted when the door opened. Iniluwa nito and isang matikas na lalaki. Nanliit ang mata ko, parang ito yung nakasabulong ko kanina ah?
Gulat din siyang napatingin sa akin at di kalauna'y sumama ang tingin nito. Oh? Inaano kita? Ikaw itong maattitude. Kalalakeng tao.
"Apo, you're here! Come and sit down please."
At umupo naman ang gago.
"Do you have any vacant position in your company?"
"None, why?"
"Oh I remember! Your secretary resigned right? And you're looking for someone new?"
Wait magiging secretary ba ako ng ugok na ito?!
"Yes I am, and so?"
I don't like where this is going.
"Starting from now, she's going to be your secretary and you can't fire her without my permission." The chairman stated.
"What?! No! I dont like her!" Sagot ng lalaki.
Ay aba! Aba aba aba.
"Hey, I don't like you either!" sagot ko naman.
"Both of you stop please. Ynoa please bear with my apo. And let's have a tea some other time. This is my number. Please feel free to call me if you need anything. I'm afraid I have to go. I have a business meeting to attend to." Ani ng chairman at tumayo na.
"Please be comfortable with each other since you'll be working together." Pahabol pa niya at tuluyan nang nawala.
