**DRAKE'S POV**
The first thing I was aware of was a steady beeping noise, coming from somewhere above the murky blackness I was drowning in. Then came a quiet, insistent voice, calling my name over and over again. "Drake? Draaake?"
I groaned and opened my eyes to find myself face to face with my dad. Panic flooded through me at the sight of him. I automatically jerked away from him, but a slicing pain in my chest nailed me to the spot, unable to move any farther than a few inches away.
"Hey," he said softly, placing a hand gingerly over mine. "Take it easy."
I jerked my hand away, suspicious and unwelcoming to the reassuring gesture. "What're you doing here?!" I demanded. "Where am I?!?!"
"You're in the hospital," another voice answered. I looked at the doorway to see Ashlyn leaning against the frame, watching me with solemn eyes. "We found you in the woods with a knife sticking out of your chest."
Matt nodded. "The doctor said it was a miracle the blade didn't hit any vital arteries."
Blade. My eyes immediately searched the room for my boyfriend as the memory of what had happened came crashing down on me. "Where is he?" I screeched, the beeping of the heart monitor beside me speeding up as my heart pounded in my chest. "WHAT DID YOU DO WITH HIM?!?!?!"
"Shh, we didn't do anything."
"I DON'T BELIEVE YOU!!"
"What's going on in here?" Ashley walked into the room, with Andy following close behind. "Why is he yelling?"
"Drake thinks we took Blade," Matt replied, turning to face him.
"Because you did!!" I hissed, glaring at all of them. "Who else would take him?!?!"
"Well that's an easy one," Ashley answered me, leaning back against the wall and holding my gaze with cool eyes. "People who thought you two being together was...dangerous."
"Drake," Andy's tone was gentle as he came to stand next to Matt. "We need you to tell us everything that happened, starting from after you two left the hotel. Don't leave anything out, we need every single detail."
I had begun to calm down now, reviewing the memory of Blade's abductors and my would-be killers. They were right, there was no way it could've been them. With a deep breath, I retold them of what had happened that night, leaving out a few key parts, of course. When I had finished, they all stared at me doubtingly. "What?" I asked defensively.
"It's not that we don't believe you, Drake," Ashley began slowly, glancing at Andy as he spoke.
"It's just that they wouldn't have attacked you for just lying down on the grass," he finished for him, turning back to me and staring at me with burning eyes. "There's something you're leaving out."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "And there's some things you guys don't need to know."
"Drake," Matt's voice was gentle, but authoritative. "We need you to tell us EVERYTHING. Please. The more we know, the faster we might be able to find Blade."
I bit my lip, looking around at the group uncertainly. I didn't really want to tell them what had happened between me and Blade, but I wanted him back more than anything. "Well...we...we...."
"Yeah?" Ashlyn prompted me, though by the way she was looking at me, I was pretty sure she'd already guessed. In fact, I think they all had.
"We..." I looked down and finished in a rush. "We had sex."
They all sucked in a breath, and I looked up to find them exchanging knowing glances. "They think he might be pregnant," Andy breathed, turning back to me with wide eyes.
I felt my jaw drop to my chest. "Excuse me?"
"Well, there's a possibility that Blade could become pregnant through sex, just as any other woman."
"But he's not a woman! He's a guy!"
"So was I. But if whatever happened to me is hereditary, then there's the chance it could happen to him as well."
Matt grabbed me hand suddenly, causing me to turn my head and look at him. "Drake," he said slowly. "Was the sex you and Blade had protected?"
I was shaking now. The word 'pregnant' rang through my head like a gong. I was unable to speak, so I slowly shook my head.
"Then we need to find him," Ashley exchanged a glance with all of us. "As soon as possible."
**BLADE'S POV**
I was numb, lifeless. My heart was beating, I was breathing, but inside I was completely dead. I couldn't speak, could barely even move. Every time I closed my eyes, the image of Drake, lifeless on the forest floor, floated through the darkness. He plagued my dreams every night, the sound of his voice as it screamed my name. The scream that had been his last.
He was dead, and it was all because of me. If only I hadn't agreed to sleep on the grass, if only I'd run a little faster, if only I hadn't been so weak as to give into my fatigue. He'd still be alive, I'D still be alive.
My captors wore hooded robes, so I never saw their faces. They locked my in a windowless stone room, the only light coming from a flickering, swinging lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. Every once in a while, they'd come in to give me a blood bag, and occasionally some bread to eat. I consumed it all mechanically, without even realizing what I was doing. I didn't have the strength to starve myself again.
One morning, I woke up feeling somehow violated. Though I couldn't put my finger on how, I knew somehow that something had been done to me while I slept. Outside my cell door, hushed voices whispered urgently to one another. The words were hard to make out, but I caught vague snippets of the conversation:
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"You performed all the tests?"
"I did. I'm telling you, they all showed he tested positive. The thing he's carrying inside of him, it's healthy and most defineatly there."
"Just as I had thought."
"So should we kill him now?"
"No, let them live the duration of their time. For all we know, killing the boy would simply set the creature free to reek hell on us all. We cannot allow this to happen. We will wait until it comes forth naturally, then destroy the child and the boy in one move."
I didn't know what the words meant, nor did I care. Let them kill me, what did it matter. The sooner I was with Drake, the happier I would be.
But what was all this about a child?
