**BLADE'S POV**
Drake was staying with us for a few weeks. Jayy had to go out of town to deal with something having to do with Matt's death. He wouldn't tell us what, but I was guessing it wasn't good. Normally, he'd said, he'd just let Drake be home by himself. But he was worried he wouldn't eat if he was left alone, and I was too.
Ever since Scarlet had said Matt's name, Drake had been plummeting into an even deeper pit than before. He rarely spoke, and I couldn't get him to no matter what I did. Somehow, I managed to get him to eat a little every day, but it was a great struggle that normally ended with me feeding him. Not even Scarlet roused him. He just stared at the wall in the guest bedroom everyday. Sometimes he'd start shaking, or his gaze would flicker to me and lock on my eyes. But he never spoke, not once. And he was only getting worse.
Ashley, Andy, Jake, CC, Sammi and Jinxx had all gone on some couples vacation thing. Andy and Ashley hadn't wanted to go, but we'd practically shoved them out the door. They needed some time away more than anyone, with all the shit that'd been going on lately. But first they'd asked us about five-hundred times over if we were sure we'd be okay alone. Would we be able to take care of Sophie and ourselves? Were we positive we didn't want one of them to stay behind? We'd vehemently answered yes, and said our goodbyes. I did overhear, however, Ashley and Andy making Ashlyn promise to make sure that she would watch me and make sure I didn't get hurt. Normally this would irritate me. I mean, I didn't need to be babysat by my twin sister. But this time I understood their worry. I guess they had a reason for worrying, considering past events. Besides, it felt good to know that I had someone watching out for me, since I wasn't sure how much more of this I could take before snapping again.
"Drake?" I knocked on his door quietly before opening it. It'd been about a week and a half since Andy and Ashley had left, and Drake had only gotten worse. He never even came out of his room anymore, and he was starting to refuse to eat more and more. I could see it in the dark circles beneath his eyes, the thinness of his waist, his exposed ribs. He was slowly wasting away, and I didn't know what to do about it.
"Drake?" I whispered again, stepping into the room and shutting the door behind me.
He was sitting on the bed as usual, staring at the wall. He didn't respond, or even look at me.
I sighed and walked over to the bed, sitting down next to him. "How are you doing?"
Once again, I got no answer. Drake blinked, but that was all.
I sighed and touched his hand gently. "Drake, I don't know what's going on with you, but just know that I'm always here, and that I love you. Okay?"
He turned his head slightly, and his beautiful blue eyes flickered to mine. They were blank, expressionless. Almost as if he was looking right through me, instead of at me. Suddenly it was all just too much. Normally he'd say at least a sentence to me before completely checking out, but this time it was like I wasn't even there. The tears I'd been holding back for weeks began to leak from my eyes. I stood quickly and ran out of the room...and straight into Ashlyn.
"Blade?" she caught me and stared at me with concern. "What's wrong?"
"N-nothing," I stuttered, furiously wiping at my eyes. "I-I'm fine."
She narrowed her eyes. "If you were fine, you wouldn't be crying. Was it Drake?"
I looked behind me, into Drake's room. He was still sitting on the bed, his gaze having shifted back to the wall. "I just...it's nothing.
Ashlyn let out a low growl. "That's it," she pushed past me and stomped into Drake's room.
I grabbed her arm. "Please don't Ashlyn!" I begged. "It's not his fault!"
"Yes, it is!" she hissed. "He's abandoning you again! And I'm not just gonna stand by and let him torture you!" She marched right up to Drake and slapped him across the face. "Hey jackass, wake the fuck up!"
"Ashlyn, don't-" I began, but cut off when Drake raised a hand to his cheek, rubbing the red skin. It was the first time he'd moved from his general position in weeks.
"Oww," Drake muttered, then looked up at Ashlyn. "What the hell?"
"Yeah, that's what I'd like to know!" she yelled. "Do you realize what you're doing to my brother?! He's suffering because you're too involved in your own little world to even look at him, or realize he's there! Not only that, but you've got a fucking child that you're not even attempting to take care of!"
He glared at her. "In case you haven't noticed, I've been fucking sick!" he yelled.
"Yeah, I'll say!"
"Hey, you didn't lose a family member right after you finally got them back! I did! If you went through what I did, you'd understand!"
"I spent the majority of my childhood thinking BOTH of my parents were dead! Don't EVEN talk to me about loosing family members!"
"But they weren't dead! Mine is!"
I whimpered softly and squeezed my eyes shut. "Guys, stop," I pleaded, but they didn't hear me.
"Look, I understand that your dad died and all," Ashlyn said. "And I understand that you're upset, but it's no excuse to completely check out of Blade and Scarlet!"
"I can't help it!" Drake hissed. "You think I want to do this?!"
Ashlyn snorted. "Well you sure as hell aren't trying not to!"
"Guys," I moaned, but it once again fell on deaf ears. Their fighting was starting to send me into a panic attack, but neither of them noticed.
Drake glared viciously at Ashlyn. "Show a little sympathy for once, why don't you?"
"I show plenty sympathy!" she shot back. "When someone deserves it!"
I was starting to cry now. My ears began to ring, drowning out everything but the angry slices of their voices arguing relentlessly back and forth. My heart pounded in my chest, and my breath came in short, rapid gasps. I squeezed my eyes shut and struggled to calm myself down, but it was no use. I couldn't stand hearing my loved ones fight like this. I had to get out of there. Then, without meaning to, I began to run. I didn't know where I was going, and I couldn't get my feet to stop. The more I tried to turn back, the faster I ran. I lost all sense of time, all sense of direction. I had no choice but to stop fighting, and just let my body take me where it may. I was too terrified to even open my eyes, so I just kept them shut and waited for my feet to stop.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, my legs finally came to a halt. I kept my eyes shut for a moment, listening for any sounds that might give me a clue as to what I would see when I opened my eyes. The only sounds I heard, though, was the soothing sounds of crickets and cicadas, and the rustling of leaves. I opened my eyes, and my heart sank to my knees.
I was in the middle of an unfamiliar forest. There was nothing but darkness and trees as far as the eye could see, and I had no idea where I was, or how to get back.
**SCARLET'S POV**
I was sitting in my room, playing with my dolls like I always did. I didn't know where Auntie Ashlyn and my daddies were, and I didn't really care. I was okay with being by myself sometimes. Of course, I was never really alone. I knew that.
Suddenly my room became colder. I shivered a little and looked up to see a familiar, flickering form standing in my doorway. I smiled when I saw him "Hi, Matt," I said. I didn't like talking to people, but I would talk to Matt.
"Hi Scarlet," Matt smiled back at me and began to walk toward me. He walked in a strange way; like his feet were actually hitting the ground, even though he was floating above the floor. "What are you doing?"
I held up the doll I had in my hand. "Playing with my dolls."
He looked at the doll for a minute, then looked at me. "Have you grown since the last time I was here?"
I nodded. "You haven't been here in two weeks."
"I know," he was still peering at me oddly. "How old are you now?"
"Auntie Ashlyn says I'm five years old now," I said, looking down at my doll. "She's taking care of me a lot now, since my daddies are busy a lot."
"Busy doing what?" Matt asked, looking confused.
"My daddy Drake is sick, that's what Auntie Ashlyn said. My daddy Blade is taking care of him."
"Drake is sick?"
"Yeah. He's got depleesion, or something like that."
Matt's face fell. "You mean depression?" he asked quietly.
I nodded. "Yeah, that's it. Blade says it's really bad. That's why he never talks to me, or comes out of his room."
He opened his mouth to respond, but stopped when we heard the muffled sound of shouting coming from a few rooms down. I couldn't tell what they were saying, but I could tell the voices were Auntie Ashlyn and Drake. Matt frowned. "What's going on?"
I looked away. "They're fighting again. Normally it's Auntie Ashlyn and Blade. I hear them fighting about Drake sometimes. I guess she finally got fed up with Drake and his dep-depression," I hugged my knees and buried my face in them. I hated it when people fight. It made me want to curl up in a ball and cry.
"Are you okay, Scarlet?" Matt asked, and I peeked at him to see he was looking at me with concern.
"I don't like it when people fight," I whimpered. A moment later, I felt Matt's arms around my shoulder. Despite his transparent form, Matt always felt solid whenever he touched me. His skin was ice cold, but I didn't really care.
"Just like Blade," Matt sighed, sounding sad. We were both very quiet after that, listening to the sounds of Auntie Ashlyn and Drake fighting.
Suddenly, there was a new sound. Someone was running past my door and down the stairs. A moment later, we heard the front door slam. There was silence for a moment, then I heard Drake shouting "Blade! Blade come back!"
"Sounds like he ran away," Matt commented.
"Again," I muttered.
Suddenly Ashlyn appeared in my doorway. "Scarlet, who are you talking to?" she asked, peering at me strangely.
I looked down and shook my head. Like I said before, I didn't like talking to anyone other than Matt.
Ashlyn sighed. "Well, did you see where Blade went?"
I nodded and stood, walking to the doorway and pointing down the hallway, toward the stairwell.
"Thanks, Scarlet," she ran back to Drake's room and shut the door.
I turned around to see that Matt was staring at me. "Does Blade run away a lot?" he asked.
"Only when people fight," I replied. "The worse the fight, the farther away he goes."
Matt looked worried now. "That was a pretty big fight...I'm gonna go for a little while, okay?"
"Okay," I watched him stand and disappear through my wall. My room got warmer by about ten degrees, and I knew he was gone.
I just didn't know where he went.
