Alveera's POV:

Today was the Haldi function and I was super excited and I was literally jumping and dancing in the whole house. But my excitement was cut short when I was handed the work of arrangement of chairs. Like really? Was I the only one who was supposed to do all the work? I asked my aunt about my other cousins, and I was told that they all went out for lunch, leaving me alone thinking I was busy with the management. I was red with anger, I couldn't believe that they didn't ask me once. Left with no other option I started arranging the chairs. And then I saw Xanir, coming down the stairs, and he looked at me for a moment(with me, of course, ignoring him)and he walked up to me and said, "Need any help?." Wow! never expected that.

"Yes, if you can just keep your mouth shut and don't disturb me then it would be the biggest help", I said without even looking at him, I was busy counting the chairs.

"Why do you hate me so much?", he questioned and I stopped counting and looked at him.

"I don't actually hate anyone, but you, you irritate me so much and I don't know why. I sometimes even doubt how you became the captain of Australia."

"Talent, baby, talent", he said grinning.

"Shut up, and go bring that set of chairs here", I said pointing towards the set of chairs lying at the corner.

"Tell me one thing", he said carrying the chairs, "Is it necessary to wear yellow only today?"

"Actually it has been a tradition for many years that's why. You can wear your jersey tonight."

"You want me to look stupid, I would become a laughing stock."

"That", I said, "you already are. Have you ever seen the way you bat, you look like a joker Xanir."

"At least I know how to bat, not like you who doesn't even know how to hold a bat", he said amusingly.

"Are you challenging me?", I said taking a step closer to him and folding my arms.

"There is no point challenging you when we both know who is going to win", he said confidently.

"Then I will see you in 5 mins in the garden, let's see who's going to win", and I went to my room and changed into my Indian jersey and taking the bat and the ball, I went to the garden, he was already there waiting for me. And I told him about the rules and it was going to be a super over.

"And I am going to bat", I said.

"No, the toss will decide", he said taking out a coin from his pocket.

"Then I am going to flip it cause it is my home", I said snatching the coin from him. I flipped the coin and he called 'heads' and it came out to be 'heads' only. Taking the bat, he gave me a cunning smile and I could see myself losing.

The first ball went for a six, the next also went for six and finally the third ball went for a single but he had already scored 13 runs off 3 balls. And guess what, the next three balls went for four. 25 runs off 6 balls! I needed 26 to win from 6 balls.

The first ball I played it late and completely missed it, the second ball I somehow managed to edge it and it went for a four. I still needed 22 off 4 balls, not even 4 fours could have saved me, I needed to hit sixes.

And it seemed that the luck was with him as he won the game by 18 runs. I was embarrassed and expected him to mock me but what he said actually took me by surprise.

"You played well, Alveera", he said shaking my hand, "Although you knew that you were going to lose, you played confidently." There was a hint of amusement in his last sentence but I was shocked, he went back in and I just stood there processing what happened, because maybe I was meeting him after so many years, but I never thought that he would grow into a gentleman. Never knew that Xanir Agnes Resf was a gentleman.
