Overall Representation
First of all, having wings it DIFFICULT, especially if they are going to be used for flight, in cases such as: Angels, Demons, Dragon Halflings. The reason why having wings is difficult, is because they are MASSIVE in comparison to the human body. So when writing about wings, never fail to mention that they are actually there, because it draws us more into their character if we experience their struggles with everyday life due to wings. Such as tucking in their wings to get through doorways, wrapping them around themself when they sleep, or puffing up and knocking things over when they are scared.
Birds are able to fly due to hollow bones and wind current; Angels are able to fly because of large, powerful wings that can propell them into the air and allow them to catch those wind currents. An Angel with small wings, is an Angel that won't be able to fly. The same is true for all other winged characters. The size and shape of the wings also matters though - Please look at the images shown below for reference.
