CHAPTER TEN

The whole environment was still the same except that they were new
faces and the cubicles were not full with employees as usual. Though she
was not ready to meet him yet but she felt that was the right thing to do
so that at least her mind would be at peace. She heaved a sigh and walked
towards the counter.

“Good day ma’am, how may I help you?” the receptionist asked

“I actually want to meet your boss. Is he in?"

“Yes he is. Let me speak with him and get back to you ma’am. What’s
your name please?"

“Maya”she replied hitting her nails on the counter impatiently. After
a short while, the lady turned back to her.

“The last office by your right on the third floor.

“Thanks”. She replied and left.

The office wasn’t new to her as she had been there a couple
of times. She would have even located her way on her own but she allowed the young lady to do her job. Walking on the stairs became a big
deal for the as the tension building in her was about to explode. When
she finally got to the front of his office, she felt butterflies in her stomach.

What will be his reaction when he sees her? Will he order his security
to throw her out or will he welcome her and pretend nothing ever happened? She stood there for what could be considered eternity before she summoned courage and opened the door. Where was her manners?

She had forgotten to knock and the sight she saw made her turn back to the door abruptly. There he was as handsome as ever making out with a girl.

“Sorry I didn’t know you were busy. I will come next time”. She replied and held the knob of the door

“What a surprise visit Maya” Kelvin said and ordered the girl instead.

His voice alone sent shivers down her spine. The stare she got from her
was deadly.

“Hi kelvin” she replied when she finally got her voice.

“You’ve not really changed a bit since the last timeI saw you and you
are more beautiful but at least I remember I gave you an order so what do I owe this visit?”. He asked her. He didn’t even offer her a seat. She stood in front of him like a prodigal daughter.

“Actually that’s why I came today so that we can talk about it. Kelvin
I know I offended you greatly but that’s two years behind us. A lot of
things has happened and I can’t keep running away from you. I have
dreams to accomplish here so I cannot keep hiding from you. Let’s just pretend we never met each other in this world please”. She said. After all she did, what she was concerned about was her accomplishment. Ridiculous!

“You amaze me so much Maya. Look what you’ve made me and you
think I will sit back and watch you accomplish your dreams? You ruined
me Maya”. He shouted and flung his laptop to the floor which broke into pieces. His eyes were full of resentment and blazing with outrage.He hated what she did to him. When James told him she was back, he didn’t believe until he saw her in front of him one week after looking ravishing in her dress. Two years he desired love from women and tried to move on with his life but it seemed his life was stuck in the past. He still loved her
despite the fact that she pushed him away. He still had feelings for her
and her alone. Those feelings stayed dormant like a volcano only to come
to open when that one stimuli made it presence to stir it to life.

“I’m sorry”she whispered so low that the incoming sob from her was
overheard.

“Save it for your unborn children Maya”. He said stressing her name
like he was squeezing the hell out of it. “You are definitely going to pay
for what you did to me. With that, the equation will be balanced”.

“I will make it up to you kelvin. I promise. I will buy your laptop
and.......”

“Can you buy me a new heart? The one I have now is shattered and
filled with hatred and revenge”. He said glaring at her. At that moment
she was speechless. What more could she say to soothe his anger? There
was something she could do but willher. As he waited for her to reply, he moved closer to her and she kept on moving backward.

“You probably hate me now and there is no way I can buy you a new
heart but if you give me a chance, I can amend it.".

"How do you mean.....Maya?"

"I know this might sound funny but you have to believe all I have
to say. I have always loved you right from time but I was just scared of
acknowledging it. Each time I remembered how my whole family were murdered in cold blood my hatred for wealthy men increased. I had lived with this hatred for a long time not until I met you. I was scared of getting my heart broken but I ended up getting someone else hurt and am
sorry. I want all this to be over. Its not too late to start afresh with somelone else"

"Thought you said you can mend it if I give you a chance?" Heasked,
one of his brows raised. He kept on moving towards her till she rested
her back on the door.

"I won't get one since you already have a girlfriend" she replied. He
began to laugh hard that tears gathered in his eyes.

"Who told you that?" He asked amidst laughing and holding his
stomach.

"Rita did"

"Well, I had. Her name was Claire. She got tired of the relationship
and broke up with me"

"So does that mean I have a chance?" She asked breathing. She
couldn't believe that they were talking so calm because their beginning
was a mess. Does it mean he has forgiven her or....?

"I'll have to think about that but before then, I'll do this". Saying that,
he grabbed her and crashed his lips on hers. It felt awkward to Maya because that was her first but as it became intense, she began to adapt to the tingling feeling she had.

"I love you" She muttered. The words flew out of her mouth even before she could stop them. Will he find it amusing or will he believe her? She thought

"I love you too Maya" he replied not wanting to ruin that particular
moment. He had dreamt of it for two years and now he had he opportunity, he was ready to grab it till nothing was left. He was never going to
let go of her ever again. Never!
