SCENE 4
INT. Hallway
We see the backs of TODD and DAVID, looking at MARLIE from afar, surrounded by friends and chatting with them. TODD sighs as he looks at her from afar. It is after school on a Monday.
DAVID
That's her, huh?
TODD
Yep.
DAVID
Bennie and Caleb told me about the cat-
TODD
David, you are not helping.
DAVID
Sorry. I thought I could distract you from her for a second. So, you ran the cat over?
TODD
Accidentally.
DAVID
Was it unintentional or-
TODD
This is stupid. I can't do this. Why should I ask a girl out when she's with someone else?
DAVID
Who is she with?
TODD
Xavier Hudson.
DAVID
The football jock?
TODD
Yes.
DAVID
I don't think she's dating him.
A cutscene shows MARLIE with her friends, engaged in a frantic argument.
DAVID (O.S.)
How do you know she isn't dating him? They gotta be friends.
TODD (O.S.)
Just friends? I saw them hold hands once-
DAVID (O.S.)
Friends can hold hands-
TODD (O.S.)
Do we hold hands?
DAVID (O.S.)
No.
The scene returns to the backs of TODD and DAVID, still facing MARLIE.
DAVID
You don't have to do this, you know.
TODD
It's worth a try, but I don't think it will probably work.
DAVID
What if it does work?
TODD
Then, I guess I'm the luckiest guy in the world.
DAVID pats TODD on the back.
DAVID
I'll see you later. Wish you luck.
