Later that day.
"Aw, you're leaving already? The party only just got started." Nikki pouted.
Max Pov
I picked up my full back pack, placing it onto my shoulder.
"Yeah." I told her.
"You don't have to leave just because I want to." Neil whispered to me. I shook my head.
"It's fine."
"The sleepover ends on Sunday!" Nikki cried.
Nikki's the one who wanted to come here the most anyways. What difference does he leaving make? She's been all over Ered and I think she just wanted us to come so we'd talk again. I mean, it worked. Without this I don't think we'd ever talk about it. Maybe we would have just forgotten about the whole situation.
AW THAT MEANS NIKKI's PLAN WORKED.
I pouted at my own thought.
"We'll see you on Monday." Neil said as he walked out the door to get to his rusty old car. I started to walk away but Nikki grabbed me by my arm and whispered something in my ear.
"I know you're hiding something and it's my duty to find it out." She then giggled at the word "duty", and then let go of my arm. Nikki cleared her throat to seem serious. "Okay. Bye Max."
I walked away quietly. I knew that makes her suspect something more, but this is going to last long. An unknown relationship. I got into the passengers seat while Neil was busy tapping his nails against the wheel.
"So where are we going exactly?" Neil asked me, not turning his head towards me. Just staring at the wheel.
I shrugged.
"Well maybe yo-"
"YOUR house. Great idea Neil."
He paused for a moment, but then shrugged it off. "Sure we can go to my house but I have to study."
Neil has been over my house before, yes. But right now it's not in the best condition. I still have to go shopping to keep food in the house for just myself. That's the only one who lives there 98% of the time. Me. I don't want to tell Neil because then he'll use his money on me and buy food for me. I don't want him to do that. I'm okay. I can do things on my own. I've been doing this for years. Neil nodded, and then pulled off.
The car ride was mostly silent. I think I even fell asleep without realizing it because I felt a tap on my shoulder. "We're here." Neil informed me. He then scooted himself out of the car, shuffling through his keys to find the one that went to the house. I used my little bit of energy to jump over the the car door to get out. By the time I got to the porch Neil already made it inside. Jeez, he doesn't play. I closed the door behind me when I walked in. I assumed that Neil went upstairs but I wouldn't know. It felt like he was teleporting. I climbed up the stairs, finally reaching Neil's room. "Tired?" He asked me, placing books and papers on his small desk in his room. I shook my head. Getting out the car really woke me up. Neil sat down at the desk and began
throwing himself into nerd land while I just sat and watched him. I did this for about 10 minutes before I couldn't do it anymore. I could've stayed there if he was going to do this. I sighed loudly. No response. So I let out an even louder sigh. Still no response. Okay. Well I let out a loud groansighcough. "What is your deal, Max?" The nerd asked me, annoyed.
"You know what my deal is."
"But I have to do this. It's Sunday."
"The Sunday where it's the day after you gain a boyfriend and you don't want to spend time with him."
Neil went silent. He then carried his stuff over to the bed, and sat down onto it. "Take off your shoes, nasty."
So I did. My shoes we're now on the floor besides the bed. Neil laid back on the bed but he wasn't giving up on working. Such an eye roll. I snatched Neil's book out of his hand. "Hey!" He screeched. I can be affectionate too. I wrapped my arms around his waist, laying my head on his stomach.
"Max.."
"Shut up." I demanded.
Neil lifted up my chin with his hand so that'd I look at him. He just blinked. "Uh.." I muttered.
Neil practically lifted me off of his waist, and hugged me instead once I was off. I kissed his cheek. A faint blush appeared on his face. "Sorry Max. I know I'm pretty lucky right now and I'm not talking advantage of it." I nodded in agreement. "Yea."
"Well I'm going to start."
"Now?"
"Now. Studying can wait."
We both exchanged smiles
