{20} The Not-So-Clear Truth

Start from the beginning

“Who?” Stein asked with the same twisted smile as the first day she saw him. “Kid or. . . Curran.”

Eevee opened her mouth, but nothing came out even though she knew what she wanted to say. She had been looking for Kid because he had been curious about her, her past, and her life before meeting her. Curran hadn't come to mind until Stein had mentioned him and when his name had come from his mouth something had clicked into Eevee's mind.

A reason why she couldn't be with another weapon, why she could only trust Curran, and why she had fought again matching her soul with Soul's. She shouldn't be looking for Kid, she got that, she should be looking for Curran and letting him know what she remembered above everyone else. He had been the only person to trust and now that that final portion of memory had click, he was the only one to trust.

“I'm still looking for Kid.” she declared turning her back on Stein and walking down the stairs.

“Oh,” he said bemused, “And what exactly are you planning on telling him, Eevee?”

“The truth.”

“Really? There's a reason why he hasn't figured all of this out on his own, and it's not only because of Lord Death holding back information on you. You should think things thoroughly before acting.”

“I can't think thing thoroughly,” she responded with a tone of voice that made Stein think she was in pain, and she probably was, “You know that, Madam knows that. . . .Lord Death knows that, too.”

Stein smirked, “Then, what are you going to do now? You know the ending.”

Eevee gave him a heart stopping glare, “I'm doing what I think is right.”

With that she left, in a faster pace that Stein didn't think possible and felt she had cheated the physical examination. His heart was pounding in his chest, his hands shaking, which he hid by tugging his arms towards his chest. That look, the look Eevee had given him, it was the same look she had given him the day he dug his scalpel into the tender flesh of her chest when she had died that day long ago.

“Terrifying, as I expected.”

No where. Eevee couldn't find Kid anywhere and she didn't want to go look in Death Manor because she didn't want to run into Lord Death. Curran was nowhere to be found either and she could sense his soul anywhere. Kid was easier to locate because of the distinction of his soul, but every time she went towards him, he was gone.

She cursed inwardly as she caught the reflection of herself in a nearby window. Nothing showed on her face, she looked as calm as any Shibusen student after exams, but her mind was in turmoil. She wanted to scream and hit something until all their bones were broken. She had to change that something to someone, that someone hopefully Stein, but she wasn't strong enough to do any harm on that man.

Eevee closed her eyes and tried to sense the soul wavelength of both boys she was looking for. She tried to focus on Kid's again as she found him easier to track, but her mind kept wondering off to Curran. His soul was different from the other weapons and that had been the reason why he had become her weapon and not Pierre.
