Her parents try and find her a suitor which seems to be unsuccessful.

Warnings: none
Age: 5/6

LITTLE Y/N SAT AT THE LONG DINING TABLE and let out a rather large sigh. To say she was bored was an understatement and she had already scanned the room for anyone even close to her age only to find no one, the dining hall was packed with adults who seemed to have nothing to talk about but to ask her parents if they had found a suitor for her yet.
She was beginning to get restless and picked apart her food with the expensive silverware displayed upon the wood surface. She threw the fork down and slouched back against the chair, that towered over her head. Her eyes stared through the crack in the door which lead to the hall, she felt as if she was being watched and her intuition seemed to be correct when she spotted a pair of eyes peeking into the crowded room.
Y/N turned to (at the time) her only confidant and tugged on his sleeve, he bent down so she could whisper into his ear

"Peter, cover for me."

He gave the 5 year old a quizzical look and tried to pin point what she had gone back to looking at, Miles' curiosity had seemed to get the better of him and he had crept downstairs to see what was going on. Peter nodded his head at the girl and she ducked under the adults stares.
He had told them that she needed to go to the bathroom and she should be back soon.
Y/N cracked the door open enough for her tiny body to fit through the gap and closed it as quietly as she could.
"It's boring in there, yet you seem so interested,"

"Nothing ever happens around here, the house is usually empty."

"Oh."

The two children observed each other for a minute before Miles took Y/N's hand and ran into the library. They spent about 2 hours in every room of the house before they decided to go and visit the horses.
It had been about 15 minutes and Y/N's feet were starting to ache due to the tight heeled boots her parents had shoved on her feet.

"Miles can we go back inside now? My feet hurt."

"Just a little longer, I'll piggyback you to inside if they get any worse."

She scrunched her face up at the thought of Miles carrying her home. She doubted he would but didn't think anymore of her feet blistering as she imagined the walk up to the drive of the huge house.

Miles turned around to the girl and held her hand as he put it up to the horses nose. Y/N snorted at the feeling of the short, coarse hair on her hand. She dropped her hand back down and they began the walk back when Y/N decided against Miles carrying her after she realised the chances of him dropping her in the mud were very high.

The warm air hit their faces when they got inside and Y/N spotted her parents reaching for their coats and saying their goodbyes to their acquaintances. She pouted, now realising that she had to go home and would definitely not remember the way back to Miles even if she wanted to. With furrowed brows, she turned to him and unexpectedly wrapped her arms around his neck with all her weight, causing Miles to tip a bit and then catch himself.

He realised what was happening and noticed the low prospect of seeing the girl again. She let go of the embrace and smiled at him. Their parents watched this act and saw that the only people's son they hadn't mentioned for Y/N's suitor was Miles. With a knowing look and a nod. All was set into place, and once Y/N was out of the boarding school to protect her, she would come to the house and see Miles again. Until then they'd have to live with visits every year and writing letters until she was 16.
