Chapter 2

Imani

The last 3 years have been amazing in L.A. I've been able to bag my degree and I'm currently working on my honours degree in Political science and Governance. My family and I moved here a few years back for a better life. My mother is a dentist and my father well I don't know much about him. I  have a younger sister who's going to 6th grade. I love  her so much. We left Ethiopia due to wars that took place so yes we are refugees. When we got here my mother didn't have a cent to her name we stayed in refugee camps. I'm grateful they took us in but it wasn't the best living conditions. It was overpopulated, we shared toilets with random strangers that also came from different countries. And we only had one  meal per day. Luckily my mother's family was this side well my Uncle and his new wife and kids. He really helped my mother by finding a job and getting her on her  feet which wasn't easy. But she already had obtained her qualifications from home. She is really the most hard working person I know. I admire her strength and resilience so much. I've also worked hard myself and got a bursary that was willing to pay for my University  fee and all the extra costs like my Accomodation. I constantly have to work hard to keep it which isn't an issue for me considering that I love what I'm studying. Initially like most girls I dreamt of being a model and gracing big magazine covers but being a refugee and seeing that so much still has to be done I chose the path I chose. I really want to be involved in parliament I want my voice to be heard and my peoples voices. I still have a long way to go but I'm doing something. I've even opened  up my own charity my family and I like giving back and helping out in refugee camps. I love what I do.

I was currently sitting in my apartment studying in my bed. I was writing my last exam in a week's time but I like being prepared. Overprepared according to my friends. I just wanted to finish with studying so I can start working on my research. I  haven't decided on the topic of my research but it will definitely be interesting. My phone rang a few times before I picked up. It was my bestfriend Sky.
"Hey Sky what's up?"
"Friend I miss you so much you've been stuck on your books ever since I can't take this."
"You're being dramatic right now it has only been two days besides you know I have an exam to prepare for"
"And, so do I but you won't find me stressing like you, anyways we need to take a break"
"What kind of break Sky because the last time you said that we ended up in another city girl"
"Well I promise this time nothing like that will happen, I'll pick you up and we'll chill at my place"
"I don't know hey I really have a lot to get through"
"Come on friend just for today besides you have a whole week to prepare"
"Ok ok...just give me 30minutes to prepare then you'll pick me up"
"Can't wait..bye"
I dropped the call. I love her so much but she gets out of line at times. Sky is the total opposite of me. She's outgoing and bubbly almost every one gets a long with her. We met in Varsity in our first year. She's like my sister now. Her family is very rich, girl gets whatever she wants whenever. That's why she's not stressed about her work at all. We usually travel together and do almost everything together. I prepared myself and made sure I looked cute with my natural looking make-up. When I was done I got a text from Sky.
Sky❤❤- I'm outside you can come.
Me- Ok love I'm coming
I headed outside with my small purse and locked up my apartment.

"Hey ....so where  are we headed?"
"Well I know I said we would be chilling at my place but something came up so we're going to a performance"
"Well why do you think I look so cute I knew you had something planned, you never change do you?"
"Friend I swear this wasn't planned it just just.. ."
"Just what don't lie now"
"Ok ok but if I told you you wouldn't have came Imani sometimes I have to pull extreme measures with you"
"Ya whatever I'm actually glad I came"
"Wait until we get there"

We arrived at a theatre hall. I guess whoever was performing will be doing it here.
"Well here's your ticket, I made sure I got us front row " she handed me one.
When I looked up August Alsina was printed in large prints at the entrance of the building.
"Who's August?"
"You're kidding Imani you really don't know him"
"No, I mean the name sounds familiar, you know I don't really listen to your type of music Sky"
"Well trust me you're going to love him...come on before it gets crowded"
It was already crowded you could tell these ladies were excited. Well let's see how this goes. We went through security clearance and headed to our spot. A few minutes later the theatre was packed. The MC was getting the crowd amped up and excited. I was just waiting to see this artist that every one keeps screaming for.
"I know y'all came out for August tonight. He promised to give y'all the best night ever. Let's show him some love as he comes out to the stage"
The crowd started going crazy and women were shouting his name. He came out singing...

Everyone was singing along to the lyrics and screaming on top of their lungs. After singing the whole song he addressed us.
"Thank you all for coming out tonight I really really appreciate all the love and support I honestly have the best fans."
The crowd was cheering him on.

He really looked sexy asf. He looked very tall and slim but had a bit of muscles to him. He had tattoos all over his body and had caramel skin. Not to forget his angelic voice and beautiful vocals. No wonder women were going crazy and screaming non stop. He sang a lot more songs and engaged inbetween. The show ended really late and I was ready to get to my place and sleep. Sky dropped me off at my place.

"Thank you for today Sky I had no idea I needed that"
"No need to thank me I'm just glad you came I'll see you tomorrow"
We hugged and said our goodbyes before I headed inside and went to sleep.
