Normally, Mondays were utter hell to even get started let alone get through, but this one was already off to a different start. After my lovely birthday weekend of being surrounded by love and resting, I was in good spirits heading into the day. Walking into my office I saw a medium sized box on the table wrapped in white paper with a beautifully tied white bow on the top. I sat down my purse and opened the box to reveal a gorgeous leather style journal with a locket key placed inside. I pressed the locket in to open it and took it out. Opening up the locket I couldn't help but smile at the horrendous picture on the inside from Marcus' birthday the year prior.

Marcus, Brooklyn, his best friend Richard and his wife Invi, me, and a few others had all gone to some trampoline park and ran ourselves into body aches for days trying to flip like we where kids to celebrate his twenty-ninth birthday. In the end we were tired as all hell, but we'd had a good time. To celebrate we took some pictures. One of which was a token favorite of his that I despised aloud but adored internally. He had managed to get on my back and I'd managed to garner enough strength to lift his overgrown behind off the floor long enough for us to take a picture with him smiling like a hyperactive child and me smiling through my pain of lifting his heavy self. It was a prized picture of us two, and I couldn't help but to feel a pang in my chest as I sat it down and picked up the journal. On the first page of the journal was note written in his neat hand-writing.

Happy Birthday, Punk. I hope that this finds you well. Use it for whatever you want. To think, to vent, to remember what you can't hold in your big ass head- doesn't even matter. Just know that I got this for you because lately I've found that I can't keep you off my mind, and I knew that I had to put that feeling into something thoughtful and centered on you. No matter what is going on between us I need you to know two things: The first being that I'm sorry. I take full responsibility for everything that's happened between us. You are right in how you feel, and I was wrong. So damn wrong, but I know that'll do just about anything to fix us.

The second most important thing that I need you to know is that I love you. I live for you. You are literally the reason I had to get up in the morning to make something out of the abundance of nothing we had so that you didn't have to worry about a thing. So that if you wanted it, you could have the world at your feet without ever lifting a finger. I wanted better for you and Moms, but in chasing that better I ran myself in irrational danger. I'm still there. No matter the life I'm living, and the consequences of such, please know that being your Big Brother will forever be the first and most lasting relationship of meaning in my life. I'm so sorry that we are in a place that you have to question that.

I owe you more than this, but I'd rather we talk in person. Whenever you want to talk I'll come running. No matter the place, time, or any other terms. Anything you want to know you'll know to the best of my disclosure.
