Promises! Promises!
Which ones to keep and which to break?
A long time ago, one December night,
I made a vow to myself,
To be true, to be brave, and
To be happy, come what might.
Once upon a time, one December morn,
I promised myself that,
I'd leave my sadness behind me, and
I'd do something nice for myself, even if I felt torn.
It's a distant memory now, but one rainy December day,
I made a promise to myself,
I wouldn't give you more chances than you deserved,
If you broke my heart again, I wouldn't let you stay.
You might not remember, but I had vowed,
It was a cold December when I promised myself this,
To put myself first and always love myself unconditionally,
Because I might not be perfect, but who isn't flawed?
It was such a long time ago, almost a distant memory,
But that December night and morn, I promised,
Even if I wasn't always right, I'd be good, I'd be wise,
And never again would I forgive any treachery.
Promises! Promises!
I do recall and I will keep them all.
