• Chapter V •

The good thing out of this whole situation is that at least we managed to gather a nice pile of supplies. We went through all the neighbourhood houses and took everything that we thought would be useful. Food, weapons, guns, ammo, batteries, medicine. It's gonna last for awhile. I go down the stairs and walk into the living room. It's still very early, because I notice Rick sleeping on the couch. I don't wake him up though, it's gonna be a long, hard day and it's better he gathers his strength. I go to our stash of guns and pick up one for me, I load it up with ammo and put it in the back of my jeans. I put the rest of the guns into one of the bags. We already chose a perfect car and gathered cans of gas to make it run. I walk around the room making sure that everything is packed. Suddenly I hear a loud alarm sound going off outside. I look through the window with the gun in my hands. One of the damn walkers walked into a car and the alarm went off. This is not good, the sound draws them in. – Dammit. The whole street will be full of them in a few minutes. – I say to myself, but I can hear steps behind me. Rick is up, well, who wouldn't be after hearing that damn alarm sound?

- We should get going right now before they block the street. Otherwise we won't get through with a car. – I hear him say and I turn around to look at him. I know we have to go now, but I still feel like we didn't think of something. Like we're forgetting something important. But there's no time to overthink, it's now or never. I grab the second gun from the bag on the floor and pass it to Rick. He takes the bag with weapons and I grab bag with other supplies. – They are all going for the car with alarm, we should get to our car without a problem. But still – we cover each other backs. – I say as I open the door of the house. Thankfully they don't even notice us. I don't waste any time and I make my way to the car with a gun in my hands. The closer we get to our destination I start to notice that most of the walkers are no longer focused on the alarm. They start to go for us. I open the trunk of the car and throw my bag inside, Rick does the same and I close the trunk and jump onto passenger's seat. Seconds after me, Rick drops on driver's seat and closes the locks of the car. He turns the engine on and drives away before we get surrounded by walkers.

I'm not in a chatty mood. The nightmare I had really fucked up my whole day, so therefore there's an awkward silence in the car. I'm focused on the sight behind the window. Everything is dead, there are crashed cars on the road every few minutes. It's still not that bad though, because we chose small roads to get to our destination. It's good we decided to avoid the highway, I'm sure it's all blocked with cars and there are walkers everywhere. We are going to check out my ex-husband brother's place. I figured that's where Luke would go to protect Sophie. His brother is his only family member beside us. The real question is: is the place safe? It's a farm so there shouldn't be much of a problem, it should be safe at least for now. But you never really know. I hear Rick's voice and it pulls me out of my thoughts. – Are you okay?

- I'm just worried. What if they are not there? I don't know where else they could go. – I say while clenching my fists. Why is everything so hard? Also I really start to miss my sister. The thing about me and Anne is that, we are close. We're each other's soulmates. Most of the people don't like their siblings. But I love her. I really do, she's not only my sister. She's also my best friend, I never connected with anyone else so well as with her. She's probably scared out of her mind right now, I wish I could be there to protect her. But I have to believe that she's safe. I'm sure Travis managed to get to her and he will keep her safe. I hope.
