Luke's POV

It's not like I imagined this day to be. It was supposed to be a day as usual. I would finish work at the attorney's office, then I would go pick up my daughter from school and go see her mother. At the end of the day I would grab a beer with Dylan and that would be it.

I didn't expect this day would end with blood dripping off my hands...

6 hours earlier

I sit in the car waiting for Sophie to finish her day at school. I look at the clock, it's 2pm. We have two hours before I have to drop Sophie off at Caroline's place. I lit a cigarette and put it in my mouth. After 15 minutes of waiting in the car, I can finally see my daughter cheerfully make its way in direction of the car. She looks so much like Caroline, it's crazy. She literally took all of her genes, she looks nothing like me. I throw away the smoke before she sees it and open the door for her. She jumps on the seat next to me and throws a hand in the air. I high five her as it's our usual way of greeting.

- Hi, pumpkin. How was the school? – I ask her while giving her a candy bar. Yeah, I am the parent that spoils her, but someone has to, right?

- It was awfully boring! I can't wait to get to the birthday party. – She admits and takes a bite of a candy bar.

- Oh hold on, you still gotta do homework before you go. – It hurts me to even say it, I sound like Caroline right now. I'm definetely the less responsible parent.

- Who are you and what did you do with my dad? – She says looking at me with a pouty face.

- If you still want to have a dad by the end of the day, you will listen and do what I say. – I laugh under my nose and help her to put a seatbelt on. I turn on the engine in my car and drive in the direction of my apartment. I look at the traffic all around me. What is happening with the city today? Did the president come to visit Atlanta or what? I never seen such an chaos in the city. I look in shock at a man on the street that jumps on another person and starts eating her. I can't believe in what I'm seeing. I close all the doors in the car and cover my daughter's eyes. – Don't look, Sophie. – I say as I try to go pass the cars that are stuck in front of me.

What the fuck is happening? I ask myself when I see an upcoming call from Caroline. I pick it up immediately.

- Care.. there's something wrong in the city. People are going nuts.. – I say as I speed the car. I can hear Sophie panicking next to me. I don't know what to do to calm her down. I can't even calm myself down.

- Luke! Where are you?! We need to leave the city. It's not safe here. I'm going to get you! – I hear her say on the other end and I want to give her an answer, but suddenly I lose the signal.

- I'm... - It's the only thing I manage to say before the call ends abruptly.

Damn it. I try to call her back, but there is no signal at all. The phone lines are dead. I throw my phone on the dashboard of my car in frustration and park the car in front of the building I live in.
