Chapter I : Chance Encounter

((M/N)'s POV)
"Ugh! Do I really have to go there?" I said to Jade while burrying my face to the table infront of me. Okay let's rewind a bit, Alois invited me and other nobles to his manor for a ball, just in case you couldn't tell, me and Alois don't exactly get along that well in fact we might as well be at eachother's throat. Anyway back to the main plot. "Although it's not a must, i highly suggest you to join Your Grace, Lord Trancy is a rather high ranked noble and dismissing an invitation from you could cause problems" Jade answered to my previous question. "Jeez don't rub it in, i know that he's got a bigger manor" i say while sitting upright on my chair. I sigh in frustration at the situation. I have to go to a ball with my idiotic cousin just because he has a bigger manor? He isn't even my real cousin! The damn kid is adopted! "*sigh*... go get the carrige Jade." I say in defeat. "At once Your Grace" jade replied.

Jade openned the door to the carrige as i walked in and Jade joined after me. She tapped the roof of the carrige signalling the coach and we're off. The ride was rather uneventful, only Jade handing me sweets every so often, a small convertation about her dress and after about a 30 minute ride, we made it to Trancy Manor. I always envied this place, the size of it mocks my manor even if it's not too far off. "We're here Your Grace." The sound of Jade's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

As we walked closer, Alois's butler opens the door for us, i must admit i always took a slight liking to him, there's something about him that gives a slight creepy yet protective aura.

"HELLO COUSIN!!"

"Ugh..."

His voice pearced straight through my ears. As he ran towards me i turned to greet him. I honestly hate the fact that i need to look up to talk to him, he mocks me in every way possible. But i made the effort of putting on a fake smile, if only for common courtesy.

"Hello... Alois." At this point it was obvious i didn't want to talk to him but Alois is such an airhead that he doesn't even notice.

"Aww what's with the long face? Don't tell me you're boing jelous again~" Alois replied.

"N-no of course not... well i'll be off taa-taa" I said, walking away as fast as i could with Jade following close behind me.

The party was already rather crowded filled with nobles, some i know and others i don't, but one noble in particular cought my eye the most. He seemed to be my age, perhaps slightly older? He was wearing an eye patch and a deep blue coat, and next to him was his butler...? He looks odd... unnatural almost. I should take a closer look.

(Ciel's POV)
Well this party is awful all around. And without Elizabeth here i don't have many options for a convertation. Though admitedly having a convertation with her was already hard as is. That was until a short child figure came walking towards me, wow he is short. And he had someone following behind him im asuming its his mother. After a rather typical introduction I found that his name was (M/N) and he is the Earl of the Adelai Estates but one sentence seems to catch my ears more than the others.

"So whats your relationship with Earl Trancy?" I asked.

"Hm? Oh he's my cousin" (M/N) replied. Admitedly this shocked me quite a bit.

I mumbeled "Well that must be a miserable spot to be in." Unfortunately it was loud enough for him to hear

"You have no idea" (M/N) seems to agree with me on that statement but then again it's rather hard not to.

We continued with the idle chatter and I also found out that the woman following him was his maid, and not his mother. I suppose that makes sense due to their differing appearance. Although she does have a strange presence to her, i have a tingling feeling that she isn't what she is. They're hiding something.

We continued to talk about anything, usually i would find this sort of chatter unimportant and not worth my time but i seemed to be okay with this. (M/N) was very interesting, him and I also shared a bit of a common background in terms of being born into nobility and loosing our families which lead to us being Earls. After what seemed to be hours of chatter and topic after topic, Trancy showed up.

"Ah (M/N) i see you've made a friend, about time i say, it's been what? 2 years of you sulking alone?" Alois started.

(M/N) simply replied with silence and a glare sharper than Sebastian's kitchen knives.

"Oh and not to mention how your only friend in the world, your big brother ran away." Alois continued, still in a mocking tone.

I really did not like the way he was talking to (M/N). I could see the hatred to Alois in (M/N)'s eyes, he looked about ready to skin him alive and considering my history with Alois, i dont blame him. But (M/N) simply replied with more silence.

"Aww what is it little (M/N) you wanna cry?~ of course you do. You're just a little orphaned cry baby~"

Snap. I can't hold it anymore, i pushed Alois back and onto the snacks table behind him, the table slit and a bowl of fruit punch got dumped on him. Hannah rushed over to help Alois. Seeing that we made quite the scene among the nobles, i grabbed (M/N)'s hand and dragged him out the manor. It was about time i leave anyway.

Outside the manor, i was apologising to him for making a scene but instead he said.

"Thank you, Phantomhive" I was not expecting that at all, especially because i pushed his cousin onto a bowl of fruit punch but if he's okay with it than so am I.

After a bit of silence i decided to reply "No need to thank me, i've been wanting to do that for a long time." He looked suprisingly happy.

"Hehe I'd say he got what was coming for him." (M/N) said.

After a few more moments of comfortable silence, our carriges arrived, Sebastian and i stated our farewells and headed to our carrige while (M/N) and Jade did the same.
