I have always been a mirror

My reflection resembles flesh that is not my own

Strangers see me as someone else

Sister, friend, mother, daughter

My face breaks into shards

Piercing others with my edges

Reminding them of someone

Perhaps I am the resemblance of sorrow

I resemble a figure of how someone felt

Looking at me hurts

Their words pour out of my eyes

I am sorry it has to be this way

When I see a face in the crowd

The face I have been searching for

My heart is disrupted of its peace

Reaching out with hands through my chest

I realize that I am only looking at a mirror

A reflection of a face that I once knew

But now, have forgotten

My heart goes back to its rhythm

My eyes settle to the floor

The mirror walks past me

Stabbing through my chest
