Haha, precisely.

He goes on, "I'm not oblivious to Ming Yan's feelings. If I truly like her, don't you think that after all these years I would have made her my woman?"

"How would I know..."

I guess he's got a point. But maybe he's the type of guy who loses interest when the lady starts giving him attention?

"I want to be clear that I've never had any sort of relationship with her. I consider her a good friend."

"I don't care..." Mumbling, I don't dare to look in his eyes.

"You really don't care about the gossip that your man is another women's object of affection?"

My voice projects in the cozy carriage. "You're not mine as much as I'm not yours! Anyways, it's none of my business."

"I consider myself to be yours."

"Please... Don't."

I'm not used to this sappy side of Yang Zi Huo. Perhaps it was better when he was extremely cold and distant.

Because he had woken me up so early in the morning, I couldn't help but fall asleep on the carriage ride. I don't even know when my eyes closed and my body became so comfortable with a warm pillow supporting my head.

I see Lu Kai smiling at me as we race through the muddy path alongside the lengthened rice paddies. He is laughing, and I feel immense joy seeing him so happy. He runs ahead while I try to catch up.

"Lu Kai, wait for me."

Yang Zi Huo's soft voice calls out in the distance. "We're here, Yuxing."

"Yuxing?"

I jerk awake and find my arm wrapped around Yang Zi Huo's neck. My head is resting on his shoulder with my breath up against his neck. I quickly let go of him and watch his lips curve into a closed smile.

Wiping my mouth, I hope I didn't make a fool out of myself by drooling.

He exits the carriage and waits for me outside. I'm about to step out when I see his hand waiting for me to take ahold. I don't reach for his hand and jump off the carriage with no problem.

I walk ahead up a path leading to a small wooden hut.

Turning around, I ask, "Why did you bring me here to this run down hut?"

"You don't recognize it?"

I bluff. "Of course not."

"It's our home. A less luxurious home, but nonetheless ours."

"Pfft. Why would I have a home with you?" I roll my eyes and carry on inside. Settling down at the dining table, I fan my face with my hand. The weather is humid and sticky.

"Isn't Ming Yan lucky that she gets to enjoy hot springs while I have to stay in a broken down wooden house with no cool air to pass through."

"Here, some water." Yang Zi Huo places a cup of water in front of me. I hesitate to drink it. Putting it up to my nose, I sniff for any strange smell.

He laughs, "Are you worried I will poison you?"

"Yes." With a serious face, I glare at him.

"I see." He takes the cup from my hand and drinks a sip. "Here. I drank from it too. It's not poisoned."

"You didn't have to do that!" I take the cup from him and carefully turn it to the part where he didn't put his mouth. Drinking the cool water, I feel more refreshed.

"Make yourself at home. I'll be in the kitchen making us lunch."

"What is there even to do?"

"You can take a walk to the village nearby or you can help me cook."

"It's too hot to move. I'll just sit here in silence I guess."

"If you wish..."

He leaves the hut through an outdoor hallway. Disappearing into the kitchen, I hear him preparing our meal with water splashing and sizzling oil spread onto a pan.

Why did he bring me here? This is the home I once shared with Lu Kai before dying my third lifetime. Is he trying to get something out of me by bringing me back to this wooden hut?

I don't mind being back, although it makes me uneasy that he's already completely figured me out. The only thing I have going for me is that I haven't admit to anything yet.

My better judgment tells me I can't trust anything he says or do. But a part of me wonders... is he really trying to be sincere this time around?
