"I'll be in the car" the woman spat out, immediately leaving the room.

"Well- shes a delight to be around" I mumbled, touching her lip lightly to see whether she was numb or not.

"You're telling me" she mumbled, exhaling lightly.

"So I'm assuming this wasn't your first fight?" I asked, grabbing a suture kit, carefully tilting her head to lean against the bed.

"Nope" she mumbled lightly.

I hummed, focusing to her lip.

"I'm going to start your stitches, okay?" I asked her.

"Okay" she barely spoke, letting me carefully prepare everything.

She stayed silent as I started to carefully stitch her lip together, making sure she didn't react badly to anything I did.

Once I finished, I looked to her again.

"Who started it?" I asked her.

"I hit first" she shrugged.

"That doesn't exactly mean you started it" I spoke back.

"It doesn't matter" she spoke again.

"Sometimes it does" I spoke, sitting beside her knees.

"Need to talk?" I asked her, watching her as she looked to her hands.

"I'm okay" she spoke, making me look to her knuckles, which were swollen and had various cuts.

"Jesus" I exhaled, running my thumbs over her knuckles.

"You need to ice these when you get home" I spoke, looking to her eyes.

"I will" she spoke quietly.

"So, basically just don't get the stitches wet, it being on your lip shouldn't be too hard, you just have to be a little more careful with it. Don't put chapstick over it, try not to lick your lips, make sure they don't get ripped out" I spoke slowly.

"And if all goes well, I want to see you back in five days so I can take them out." I spoke, seeing her nod.

"Come on, I'll write you a school excuse."

She walked close beside me in silence, she watched me as I wrote out and signed the excuse, handing it to her with a smile.

"I'll walk you outside-" "you don't have to" she quickly interjected

"I insist"

It was getting dark outside and I didn't know how far her foster mom had parked, so I wanted to make sure she was safe.

We went outside together, where she immediately pointed to a van, which I followed her to, seeing the lady rolling down the window with a smile.

"She's all set, she knows how to take care of it, she just needs to ice her knuckles when she gets home and I want to see her back in five days to remove them"

"Don't be surprised if you see her before then, she's a trouble maker" the woman spoke, making me look to her, sighing

It might've just been me trying not to judge her straight up

But something told me she wasn't as troubling as she was being made out to be
