Haughtily, I stalked up to the girl. "What are you doing in here?"
Without lifting her head, she replied,"I'm mixing maltodextrin powder."
Scoffing, I replied,"and who let you in?" I crossed my arms and arch an eyebrow.
Finally looking up at me, I was hit full force with warm brown eyes circled with a ring of black. The girl smiled a calculating smile and raised an eyebrow as well, crossing her arms to mimic my pose. "I am Jade Fontaine."
Hearing her name, my face paled. This was Jade Fontaine, the owner of Fontaine's, the most elite resurant in all of San Fransisco. And I just insulted her. "I-I'm s-s-sorry, ma'am," I stuttered, eyes wide.
Staring at me with serious eyes, Jade suddenly burst out laughing. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Francis shaking with silent laughter. Confused, I focused on the girl in front of me. "Bro, there's no need to be so worried. And don't call me ma'am, it makes me feel old,"Jade said, casually resting her hand on my arm.
Letting out a breath i didn't realize I was holding, I relaxed. "So, why are you making chocolate dirt instead of finishing the macarons or choux pastry?"
Giving me a considering look, Jade replied,"welllll, I love mixing maltodextrin powder and that's what I have you guys for. I don't need to do that stuff, I'm only here to make sure everything is running smoothly."
Thinking abou it, I shrugged indifferently and nodded. "Okay, whatever you want."
Glancing at her watch, Jade said,"hate to cut this conersation short but I gotta go. I'll see you on Thursday. Bye!" With that short farewell, Jade jogged to the back door, walked out, then came back in to through her apron at Francis who caught it good naturedly.
Something about Jade unnerved me. Whether it was her considering gaze, or her brisk manner of working, I can't be sure but there was definitely something I needed to beware of.
A/N:I know. Its short. The reason I wrote this is sometimes I realize I love doing things that are nervewracking. Making choux pastry (the base for cream puffs and eclairs) is exciting to me because the mixture always seems like it won't come together and I find that fun. I just wanted to writing something about it.
