Melody's P.O.V

"He's looking at you."

"No, the periodic table is behind me."

"Then why are his eyes focused on you?"

"Well, maybe it's you he's staring at."

"Just look!"

Sigh and rolling my eyes at Yvonne's antics, I discreetly glanced in Travis's direction. Imagine my surprise when he quickly turned his head to the side.

"See!" Yvonne exclaimed triumphantly. "He lurrrrrrrves you!" She leaned in and started batting at me playfully while saying this.

"Stop it," I reply playfully, blushing and pushing her away.

I wish Mr. Fredericks wasn't absent today. The sub was sound asleep, a bit of drool slipping out the side of his mouth. A couple of boys were lining tiny balls of paper outside his nose and betting on how far it'd go.

"Mel, you've liked this guy for like since he came here. Why don't we do some experiences to test his feeeeelings for you?" Yvonne proclaimed exasperatedly.

Travis Maddar was a new student, transfered here from Greece. Naturally, he had a super shmexy tan and accent and as a girl who has a thing for accents, it was almost love at first sight. Not to mention my friends (both guys and girls) approved of him, he has a great personality, and is super smart. How he hasn't gotten a girlfriend yet, I have no idea.

"I've read this article lately about how to tell if a guy likes," Yvonne calculated, her finely shaped eyebrows furrowing. Rolling my eyes at her antics, I sighed. "Let's have a gathering this weekend."

Thinking back to my planner to check if I have anything going on, I nodded albeit a bit reluctantly. "Alright. What's the plan?"

When I noticed the devious look in Yvonne's eyes, I felt a thread of regret creep in. "Wellllll, the flirt of our group is Mason. Let's see how Travis will react if Mason just "accidentally" hits on his love." Mason is 6"7, has soft brown hair, bright blue eyes, and a confident stature. We've been friends since the second grade when his twin sister, Helen, greeted me while rollerskating.

But as I thought more, I told my manipulative friend,"I don't want to cause conflict between the boys. We both know who would win in a fight."

We exchanged looks and said at the same time,"Mason."

Tapping her pencil on the desk, Yvonne got her thinking face on. "Uhhhh, welll, we can let Mason in on the plan and have him casually ask the guys if they'd be okay with you guys being together. If Travis reacts, we'll know he has the hots for you and not have to do the experiment at all."

Considering the consquences, I made a "not-bad" face and shrugged. "Okay."

Smiling triumphantly, Yvonne replied,"okay."

Travis's P.O.V

It's better this way. It's what I tell myself everytime I see her. It'd be better if I left without hurting her. If only it didn't hurt me to leave her...

No! Shaking myself out of it, I reminded myself. I am here to complete the assignment. Easy in, easy out. My target is Yvonne Calamari, daughter of the Elves. Her friend will just get in the way. I have to take Yvonne back to the fortress.

They said it.

One more strike and I'm out.

I can't afford to fall in love.

Not again.

So why did I see red when Mason asked about Melody? Why did I want to make use of my years of experience on the field on him?
