"Katie dear! welcome home, how was school? Did you finally get to know the SOMEONE?" she said wiggling her brows
"Oh I know the someone alright!, that jerk" I muttered mostly to myself, holding the urge to pull my hand into a fist at the thought of being put in the dark with the info, the trouble I had to go through to fix a mistake I clearly didn't realize at first and now a favor I have to accomplish!
"What did you say?" My mom brought me out of my train of thoughts while narrowing her eyes waiting for an answer
"I said school was great! Adams having a party by 5pm at his home, you should get ready, Alicia would be expecting you" I replied, please buy my excuse! As I had a smug look
"Hmm, you're keeping something from me, my mom instinct is kicking in, but I won't pry if you're not ready; you're still my baby girl after all" She hugged me in the process almost crushing me in the process
"*gasp* um m-om?" I tried squirming from her grasp
"Oh sorry about that" as she backed away slowly, "you're right though I need to get ready, Alicia would be expecting me, put on something nice ok? I'll meet you up once I am done with the pastries"
"Mom... You know I'll tell you if something is up?" I dreaded keeping secrets from her but this wasn't a secret in a sense, all I need to do is complete this favor and forget about everything
Why did I ever say yes to the favor anyways?
"I know darling, I trust you, now hurry up, you wouldn't want to keep the star of the party waiting" she left giving a wink
Oh I sure would mom, you don't know how I want to avoid this as much as I can
"Sure! See you at the party!" I said in my best happy mood voice I could muster

I looked up at my mirror, a whole different girl stared at me, Lucy specification was strangely specific, why did I have to wear this? The dress made me uneasy
a goddamn breeze better not locate the fringe of this gown
A little makeup as another requirement, I'm beginning to question the reason for this, what is she up to with this, but more importantly why did I agree to this?
I hurriedly left my room not before glancing at the time 4:42pm, I refuse to be late, I won't be late, as I got to the stairs, I slowed my pace, carefully trying to sneak out as I searched for any signs of my mom
Yes nowhere in sight! Here I come party! And favor! 😩 I chose a stealthy approach as I headed for the door, as I inch closer to the knob
"Katie!!!, don't tell me you were going to leave without alerting me first" I heard as she happened to appear from the kitchen covered in flour with a bowl in her hand
So she's the one making the cake for the party!
"I wasn't... going... to! " I said with a grin, she did say I shouldn't tell her
"Hmmm... well I see you're all dolled up for the party, back in my day when your dad had his 20th birthday, I-"
"Is that.. Burnt cookies I smell?" I said, knowing her well; she'll hurry towards the source "oh! No! MY COOKIES!!!" She shouted as she dashed for the kitchen, a perfect distraction, I can't afford to be late, now I've wasted 6 minutes, this can't be happening!!
"See you later mom, SORRY ABOUT THE COOKIES" I replied shouting the last part before slamming the door shut behind me.

"Wow Katie, you look stunning, I can see you're really up for the task, he wouldn't be able to resist you now" she winked and nudged me little "and what do you know? He's looking this way! *squeal*" she fangirled
And she was right, as I looked in the direction of Adams, I noticed his gaze before he blushed and looked away, there were lots of people at the party
"He just happens to look our way, big deal; he probably looked at a girl behind us, there are lots of girls much better than I am in the party rather than he focus his attention on me" I replied mostly consoling my racing heart
What's happening?
"Uh-huh, Ri-ght! Too bad you'll have to go with the plan, don't worry I'll spare you guys some alone time, he won't be able to resist" she whispered the last part in a sing song voice
"Sure! Yay!"I said in a monotone voice

"Blow the candles dear, and make a wish" Mrs Anderson said In her cheery tone
"Moom!! I already know that, you're embarrassing me, I'm 19 today and I guess I should be treated less of a toddler" he whined as he closed his eyes and made an internal wish, opening his eyes and looking in my direction once he opened his eyes with a smile then blowing the candles
"Done! DIBS ON THE FROSTING!" He called right after causing everyone to burst into laughter
And here I thought he would act all mature now that he's 19, but I guess old habits don't die
"So now is the time to put that task into action" I heard Lucy snake her way to my ears whispering the dreaded task I had to do, why me anyways?
