limited contacts, communications & interactions with the spacers:
MAJOR temperature/atmosphere/climate/etc. differences ( - issues with, etc.), different technologies, etc., language/communications (math & science based?), possibly limited interest &/or caution by the spacers....?
"Do not interfere with the old/ancient ones." (taken by the humans as a threat, meant by the spacers as a warning....?)
- it is unclear @ first, to the humans, what/who they (the spacers) mean? eventually they figure out that it refers to the baskers, &/as they slowly figure out the intelligence/power/capabilities of the baskers, & notice how they (humans) are being "controlled"(?) by the baskers, to stay away/uninterested/etc....?
in the course of this the humans also discover small/limited quantities of unobotanium (how much?), from meteorite impacts, which they (eventually) are able to date to a time when Chthon was in the centauri (-proxima specifically?) area. electromagnetic/E-M anomalies, etc.; they study it & come to realise how important the stuff is, potentials/possibilities, etc.
(travel time & distances, communications back & forth with earth, time lag -s, etc.?)
do the baskers eventually evict/remove the humans from chthon? (great & terrible powers, ice-cthulhu-lovecraftian, etc....?)
the spacers just keep on doing their own thing, limited contacts/communications/etc. with humans - limited interest/caution re: humans?
(in part because of their interest in unobtanium) the humans prioritis/ze the mission/project to get to proxima centauri (asap)....
(could have some word & meaning play over the "outpost" in here? whose/what/which/etc.... -maybe)

spacers - they live out there in the interstellar dark & cold icy etc. (natives or...? body suit combo bio engineered ...-_?) vacuum or nearly so? ice cold temp differences issues w humans, tentacle-y/ed ice cthulhu looking kind of classic scifi alien "horrors" (but not agressive/mean) tech very different from ours, more advanced, but recognis/zably technology. i.e.: gravity-drive ships? limited communication with us. "do not disturb the old/ancient ones".... etc. taxonomy? biochem? etc....? ,.!?
(I.E.: REVERSED LOOKS/CREATURE DESIGNS)
baskers - fractall-y (like a whatsiscalled very finely fractionated surfaced starfish but moreso & different symmetries/if at all any....?) , how big, bigger than man-S/hugh huge hu-man s? xD but up to dino/whale sized or larger or whAT? also ultra cold vaccuumn or very nearly so, on chthon, etc.? ,.!? animal plantvegetable mineral fungi etc....-_? ?
