The Lonely Ones

The witch created a green orb of light in the palm of her hand and blew on it. The orb flew off in the direction of Lisa, dispersing into thousands of tiny orbs, entering the Thai's body through her chest.

It was a guidance spell, designed to help lost souls find their way home. The spell connected the soul to the mind of the individual, exposing the inner most desire of the person. The spell would allow the mind to remember what it wanted, giving the person the courage to keep going, to keep fighting. The magic couldn't force Lisa to do anything she didn't want to do, it could only remind her of what she needed to be reminded of. The Thai had to do the rest herself.

The woman watched the orbs enter the vampire then turned away, not wanting to know what happened next. "It's up to her now" she said to the spirits, "time will tell if she was worth the trouble".

Lisa lay on her back in the snow, crying genuine tears for the first time in decades. "I'm sorry" she sobbed as her mind continued to throw the faces of her victims at her memory.

The sun was rising, she could feel it against her skin already, she didn't care, she deserved to die anyway after all the horrific things she had done.

Guilt. One of the worst emotions anyone could feel, the misery and regret that comes along with it. This vampire had a lot to be guilty about.

The blonde saw lots of strange green lights hurtling towards her from the sky, she didn't know what they were but they were definitely headed for her specifically.

The lights passed through her body, moving through her heart and disappearing upon contact. She could feel her soul, it burned.

"...Jennie".

Jennie's head quickly perked up from the papers she'd been starring at for what felt like centuries, "did someone just say my name?" she asked. Jihyo, who was sat across the table shook her head. "Nope" Nayeon replied as she sat on the floor eating fruit. Jennie looked behind her towards Sana to see if the Japanese girl was trying to get her attention.

Sana was snoring with her head against a small coffee table. "Huh what?" she mumbled sleepily. The black haired slayer giggled as she saw the newspaper ink had printed on Sana's cheek, the words 'half price' printed backwards on the side the girl had slept on. "Nothing, it doesn't matter" Jennie laughed as she returned to her papers.

"This chair really isn't doing my ass any favours" Jihyo whined as she fidgeted on the cheap wooden chair. "Oh you poor thing" Nayeon replied sarcastically as she was forced to sit on the dusty floor of this old warehouse the girls were staying in.

"This must be how Sandara's clan get around town so quickly" Jennie said suddenly as she drew a red line across a full map of Yes-Seong. Jihyo leaned over to look, "the sewer system?". The slayer nodded, "yep exactly! I've been sent on missions before where vampires have used sewers to hide in during the day, or get from one building to another but I've never seen anything like this before. The sewers run all over town". Nayeon raised an eyebrow, "Isn't that normal? I mean most streets have toilets right?". Jennie nodded, "true but this town was built centuries ago when most of the land would have been farms and small villages, so why the need for such a comprehensive sewer system?".

Jennie grabbed newer blueprints of the town that were transparent except for the lines, "look at this" she said as she placed the newer prints over the old ones, "only some of the sewer system heads towards the sanitary station, most of the pipes head elsewhere and they are the same as the old ones". Sana scratched her head, "so why have all those pipes if they aren't going to the same place?". "Doesn't  make sense does it" Jennie replied, "my guess is this wasn't intended to be a sewage system when it was first built, it's only been repurposed for that in recent years". "So what is it?" Nayeon asked. The slayer used her pen to continue highlighting the sewers, "it's a tunnel system" she replied, "tunnels that go right the way round town. A lot of them have collapsed according to the newer maps but look" she tapped at a spot on the map, "all the tunnels crossover at one specific point, a point that exists on both the new and old maps".
