"So we all agree! No more mopping around life's little failures. no more dabbling the dark arts of ex-boyfriends past. This is a fresh start" Caroline says walking in the lecture hall.
"I can't agree more. I happen to love fresh starts." Katherine/Elena says followed by a metal sigh.
"I haven't been moping or dabbling" Bonnie says as she takes a seat.
"Nobody likes a bragger, Bonnie!" Caroline looks at her friend with a twinkle that reminds her to be a bit more sensitive to 'Elena's' heartache.

Bonnie signals an all right, sorry widening her eyes at Caroline, who continues in her chirpy way, "today is a dawning of new era. This is stage one of our metamorphosis into the land of the brave, the free, and the single."
"Bonnie's not single." Katherine/Elena stresses out.
"Bonnie's best friends are single, which makes her single adjacent. So she can be our wingwoman." Caroline pulls out a flyer out of her bag and gives it to Katherine/Elena.
" 'Mystic Falls' Annual Bitter Ball', a night to celebrate broken hearts, jilted lovers, and bitter singles.' This is our fresh start?"

"No. This is our purge, our cleanse. This is where we rid ourselves from the baggage better known as our tragic and mortifying first semester.
"I'll drink to that." Katherine/Elena says, her mind swaying to a conversation she had with Damon the night before
Flashback
"Remember when you told me you wanted to grow old with me when we were in Nova Scotia."
"Damon- that was the sire-bond thing. All I said back then was like in a crazy drugged-up cloud. It was not real."
"Ok. Right. But you had feelings for me - otherwise the bond wouldn't have worked the way it did."
Katherine/Elena sighed remembering all Elena told her about the state of her feelings towards the Salvatores as well as Elijah, she then replied to Damon, who looked at the Petrova with desperate eyes. "I had feelings for you, yes - but - I also had feelings for Elijah- and if he - I was sired to him - it would be the same."
"Elijah?"
Katherine/Elena gulped, remembering that Damon didn't know about Elijah and Elena and what had happened in Willoughby.
"Damon - I got tone of stuff to revise. Can you just go. I told you. We are over. I am now concentrating on my studies and me. Please, can you respect that."

Elijah's mind travels back to the night before.
Flashback
"I made a mistake. One I am regretting deeply. My own insecurities took hold of me. The guilt - is eating me alive. I meant everything I have said in Willoughby. Every word. I was in love with you from our first conversation we had in your bedroom."
Elena shook her head. "I don't believe you. If you really meant it you would have come and talk to me when you got back from New Orleans, but you didn't."
Elijah swallowed hard. It was true. He could not deny it. He had always appeared as a man fearless, who could take the whole world on, but when it came to the matters of the heart, all the fearlessness dissolved into feelings of self-doubt. He would pull his heart back in its armoured shell.
The silence that set between them was deafening. For a moment it felt like the world stood still.
Elena inhaled inwardly. "And you know what's bad - I still love you. I don't want to. It's killing me. It's killing me that - I want you to come over and kiss me and -"
"Elena" Elijah neared the doppelganger, gently laying his hands on her shoulders.
"I love you. You. I will do everything to make this right. Everything."
"No." Elena said breaking away and walked out of the room.
In the bedroom, Elena combs her hair. She stops and sits on the bed.
Her thoughts shooting to the blissful moment in Willoughby a couple of month ago
