Prologue

"I've told you so many times Gabby I don't want to go." I said slamming my locker shut, I hugged  my books to my chest scanning the hall for an escape route. Unfortunately for me, school was over and there were few students lingering around, none of which I knew.

"But I really need you there, it would be so boring without you. Please come." She pleaded.

"Gabby-" I started.

"Alex will be there." She said and that sparked my interest. Alex was Gabby's eighteen year old cousin who was in college. I've had a huge crush  on him ever since he saved me from drowning in the pool on Gabby's twelfth birthday.

I wasn't stupid, I knew nothing  could ever happen between us, after all I was just thirteen and there was a gap  of five years  between us.

"And you'll have an excuse to not spend spring break with Forrest." Who was Forrest you may ask. Well he is the boy I've hated since I was six years old. So why was I spending spring break with him? Because unfortunately for me, our mothers were best friends and were convinced we were perfect for each other and forced us to spend every minute together.

"True." I agreed.

"See." She said. "You have to come." She said smiling.

"OK." I agreed. "Only if you promise to ask my mom yourself."

"Promise." She quickly agreed but I knew it was no use, my mom could never say no to Gabby.

Two days later, Gabby and I stood in the living room of the Winters family home. The house was renovated again and despite being a family house it looked like it was built last month. The Winters owned a construction and real estate  company making them incredibly rich and successful. Almost every one in the family took part in the business one way or the other.

We had just arrived and I could smell the sweet aroma of the food the women were cooking in the kitchen. The food was probably the best part about the Winters get together.

"Come on Riele let's go drop our bags so we can get our hands on some food before its finished." Gabby said and I nodded in reply before lifting my bags and heading upstairs. Each of Gabby's aunties and uncles including her father shared a room with their spouse leaving six more rooms for the children to share. Gabby and I would be sharing a room with her sixteen year old cousin, Bella.

After dropping of our bags, we head downstairs with the thought of delicious food in mind. Once we made it downstairs I immediately knew something was off. Next to Alex sat a girl who was clearly not a Winter. She had dark skin and charcoal black hair and from here I could see that she had bright hazel eyes. She was incredibly beautiful. She wore a pink sundress with black high heels. She had make up on and her hair was pin straight. I looked at my childish yellow sweater with a cat at the front paired with my baggy jeans and worn out sneakers. My hair was in a messy ponytail and my face make up free. I felt so self conscious next to her.

"Gabby dear, can you and Riele set the table." Gabby's mom called from the kitchen.

"Yes mom." Gabby replied dragging me with her to the kitchen.

The table was set and we all sat down. Half way through the meal Aunt  Brenda asked the question that we were all thinking about.

I was at least.

"So Alex who is this lovely girl?" She asked.

"Aunt, this is Tracy, my girlfriend."  My heart broke at that moment. I knew I never had a chance but still it hurt.

After a while everyone was at the pool, doing one thing or the other, some people were getting tanned while some women had their magazines out. Gabby and I were playing around in the pool. After the incident at Gabby's pool party I learnt how to swim to avoid any embarrassment like that again in the future.

Tracy walked in wearing a yellow one piece that looked gorgeous against her chocolate skin. She sat by the pool side and dipped her legs in the water immediately Alex swam to her with a love struck look in his eyes.

Once dinner was ready everyone was instructed to go inside and change. When I entered the room Gabby was in the bathroom so I dug out a dress to wear and that was when I noticed a book on the bed. On the front, "To All The Boys I've Loved Before" was written in black and beside it "by Jenny Han" was written in pink. I was immediately attracted to it. Sitting on the floor so the bedsheets won't get wet I flipped it open and began reading. A minute later the door to the bathroom opened and I look up to find Gabby staring at me.

"What are you doing?" She asked and before I could reply she cut me off.

"Never mind, go change I'm starving." She said. Rolling my eyes, I tuck the book under the pillow and make my way to the bathroom.

During dinner I could barely sit still. Once I scraped the last bit of lasagna on my plate I quickly excused myself and made my way to the room and began reading once more. I finished the book the next day.

I was able to find the other books in the series; "P.S I Still Love You" and "Always And Forever, Lara Jean" online and I reread the series all through out spring break.

When I got home I thought a lot. In the book whenever LJ had a crush she wrote a letter. I wonder if that could actually help me get rid of my crush on Alex. Getting a piece of paper and a pen I began writing.

'Dear Alex ,
You were the first guy I ever liked. When you saved me from drowning you were like an angel sent to save my life...'

I poured my feelings and everything I couldn't tell him onto that piece of paper. All my thoughts and dreams, I wrote on that piece of paper. After reading the letter over and over again I realized It could easily be found and I couldn't have that happen so I destroyed it. I tore it into several pieces, before I soaked it in water and flushed it down the toilet feeling as if I had just flushed away all my feelings for Alex.
