It was probably midnight when I heard someone knocking on my door. Or should I say pounding? You would almost think war had broken out judging by how panicked the person on the other side of the door was. It made me unsure of whether I actually wanted to get up and find out what was behind all the noise, until I heard a familiar voice.

"Yuri?! Are you there?!"

I hurried out of bed.

"Mark? What are you doing here?"

He hurried inside and sat down on the couch, resting his elbows on his knees. I closed the door behind him quickly. When I approached him again I now noticed a big bruise on his cheek. He was covering his mouth with his hands so it was hard to see. But you could tell it definitely wasn't an accident.

"Oh my god, Mark!"

I grabbed his hands to get a better look and inspected his face.

"What happened?"

He took my hands in his own and looked at me, trying to reassure me.

"It's nothing. Don't worry."

It didn't look like nothing. Mark used to get into trouble. He was a part of a gang around here.

"What happened?"

"It was an accident."

"Don't do that to me. I don't care who you lie to, but don't lie to me."

He sighed.

"Look, I don't want to pull you into this. Just let me sleep here over the night."

He squeezed my hand.

"Please."

I nodded even though I was hesitant. War, I had thought, unfortunately unaware of how right I actually was.

The next time I woke up it was by the sound of a crash. When I left my room to see what had caused the noise I was met by the terrifiying scene of two unfamiliar men in my apartment. While both seemed rugged, they still didn't look criminal even though they were struggling to hold Mark who was fighting them with all his might. Yet despite what they looked like, they weren't any less frightening or determined in their resolve. I backed to the wall, too scared to act. Mark saw me. He also had fear in his eyes.

"Yuri, RUN!"

His kidnappers turned around and now noticed me as well. One of them put a knee to Mark's stomach, knocking the air out of him and gave his companion an order calmly.

"Get her."

I finally managed to move and took a leap over the couch but didn't make it past the sink before one of them grabbed me from behind. I struggled with my arms and legs, starting to panic, while screaming and kicking everything within my reach. Mark tried to talk to one of his kidnappers.

"Leave her out of this! She doesn't know anything!"

The man answered by punching him in the face.

"We'll decide about that."

Someone put something over my head and all I could see was darkness.

The next thing I could see was the inside of an empty warehouse. Several guys were sitting or standing to the side, just chatting. Some of them looked at me and grinned. I felt like hiding behind something, sitting in a chair wearing only a shirt and sweatpants. Mark was sitting next to me and mumbled the same thing over and over again.

"I'm so sorry, Yuri..."

I had no time to respond as a door opened. Three guys came in one by one, looking like the rest of the people present. All but one. The last person to come in had a chilling presence. He wore jeans and a t-shirt with a red checkered shirt tied around his waist casually, just like the rest of them. Pitch black hair and a red gem that gleamed in his left ear. And his eyes... They were burning. They set me on fire with just one look. The red gem in his ear gleamed even stronger when he looked at me.
