I know I have a tip for this exact lesson, but this is more in-depth. The tip version of this is a quick lesson.
How to hold pencil:
It is obvious you can't shade with your drawing tool (in this example, your pencil) straight up and down. You'd just be making a bunch of sharp lines. I shade using a single mechanical pencil because I can twist the lead and get a fine point, or use the flat end to shade.Pencil values:
Most artists use several different pencils with different darkened leads. Each of these pencils will have letters and numbers towards the base, and each one means a different shade.Drawing strokes:
When working with these drawing pencils, you do not have to apply more pressure to darken the color. Doing this will make your paper warp inwards and not be so clean. You should make small circles with the flat tip and use the same pressure using each pencil. Avoid switching drawing movements throughout the piece, otherwise it could look like this...Blending colors:
When blending colors together, you want to be sure you blend it thoroughly. If you can't tell exactly where one color ends and another starts, you've done a great job! We'll go more into Color Theory in the next lesson... Any questions?
Practice makes perfect:
Doodle every chance you get, on whatever is in front of you to grow this skill and give life to your drawings!
