speechless // dan + shay

mike & el

Mike had been rendered speechless many times by his beloved El. He just couldn't help it. She had this ability to snatch all the breath out of his lungs, along with any coherent thoughts in his head, hindering him from uttering a single word.

She had always had that effect on him from the very beginning. Mike felt like he had been stuck in a wondrous daze ever since then and he didn't want out of it, ever.

The very first time El had left him speechless, he had locked eyes with her in the midst of a rainstorm. She had come out nowhere, suddenly appearing right in front of him. The one piece of clothing she had on was soaked. She had water droplets dripping down her face. Her eyes were wide, filled with fear. She looked terrified, like she had been running through those dark woods from something far more dangerous than they could have ever imagined. He brought her home with him, wanting to help the girl in any way he could. His friends weren't too on board with the idea, but he did it anyways, not knowing that it would soon become one of the best decisions he had ever made.

The second time was when he first saw her use her powers. Of course, some of that was due to the shock of her having telekinetic powers. It's not everyday, or any day, that you come across someone with those kinds of abilities. Mostly though, his reaction was due to how incredible it was. Someone so small and almost angelic had these incredible powers that could kill someone in an instant. It was insane and Mike was completely in awe of her.

The third time, she had walked out of Nancy's room, looking completely different. Well, not completely. He thought she was pretty before, even though he wouldn't admit it aloud, but now it was magnified. She had on a blonde wig and a pink dress, a huge contrast to her shaved head and the clothes of his that he had let her wear. It astonished him so much, that he couldn't help but freeze, his eyes going wide as ever. He did eventually voice his feelings on how she looked, which was sure to earn him teasing from his friends. He quickly tried to play it off as anything but a mushy compliment, but they all knew he meant exactly what he said. He thought she was pretty and seeing the smile on her face when he said it, was worth any amount of teasing.

The fourth time, she had backed him up when he stood up to Troy. She had saved him from most likely getting punched in the face, but she had done it in the most satisfying way. She made Troy pee himself, in front of their classmates. She embarrassed the hell out of him and it was one of the best things that could've happened. He just knew it was her doing and his thoughts were confirmed when he turned to see her defensive stance, along with a bloody nose. He couldn't believe she had done that for him. She had used her powers in front of all those kids to stop a bully from hurting him. If he thought she was incredible before, now she was even more so.

The fifth time, she had done the most incredible thing yet. She saved his life. She had actually saved him from dying an extremely tragic death. He jumped off that cliff to save Dustin, not expecting to survive it. Miraculously though, she had showed up, using her powers to bring him back to the surface. He had seen her in action, slamming doors shut with her mind and whatnot, but this was on a whole other level. She caught him mid-air, bringing him all the back to the ground with her mind. How was that even real?

The sixth time was when she had thrown him back behind her to face off against the demogorgon. That time wasn't particularly his favorite moment, being one of the hardest things he ever had to witness, but he understood why she did it. She was trying to protect him, keep him from getting killed. He knew that, but it still hurt. She was putting her life in danger for him, for everyone. She didn't deserve that. She deserved to live like a normal kid, in a safe place, with a warm bed and as many eggos as she could eat. He told her she could have that. He also promised her that they would go to the Snowball, but then she was gone. She disappeared right in front of his very eyes, taking the demogorgon with her. He lost her, for what he thought could be forever, and it crushed him.

The seventh time, that was really something special. She had walked right through the Byers' front door, having the greatest effect on him that anyone possibly could have. Every time she walks into a room he's speechless, but this time was far worse. All that time apart just made it more intense. Her unexpected return hit him right in the heart and he almost burst into tears right then. For 353 days, he had called her, spoke to her when he didn't know if she was even really there listening or not. He missed her more than anything, only hoping that she was still out there, alive and well. And then there she was, looking completely different from the last time he had seen her, but just as pretty. Most importantly though, she was there. Alive. And she had saved them, yet again.

The eighth time was when she walked through the gym doors at the Snowball. He wasn't sure if she would show up, but somehow his luck hadn't run out and she walked right in. He couldn't help but jump to his feet, taking in the sight before him. Staring at her standing there in that dress really made him question whether he was living in a dream. She looked so beautiful, which was no doubt the cause of his heart racing so rapidly in his chest. The closer she got to him, the more real it all started to feel. Then, they had danced and he kissed her and everything was right in the world.

And now, many months later, as he sat there on her bed, so close to her, he was at a loss for words once again. She looked so genuinely happy and the way she was looking at him was enough to make him grin like a lovesick fool. At this point, he had lost count how many times she had snatched his breath away. Like he's said before, he couldn't help it. Any time she looks at him, with those dark, inquisitive eyes, his brain turns to mush. You'd think after being together for so long, he wouldn't get that way, but he did. She made him just as nervous, if not more, now that he knew her on a much deeper level.

He knew everything about her and loved her more for it. She's the most brave, incredible, and not to mention, stunning girl in the entire world. He blames her for leaving him speechless so often, but really it's his own fault. All he can do when she's near is watch her, like if he were to look away he might miss just a second of her beautiful existence.

What can he say though? She's his weakness...
