Stressed Out

C A M I

I awoke to the sound of a knock at my front door, my clock reading noon. The scraping of Maddox's paws against the floor rang out through my room; the giant German Shepherd heading straight to the front door. A groan escaped my lips as I sat up and I squinted against the harsh sunlight streaming through my window. "Stay." I muttered tiredly to Maddox who sat patiently next to the door. Closing my right eye, I peaked through the peep hole in the door with my left eye to see Cooper standing on the other side.

"So you met a hot guy, gave him blue balls, and decided you just weren't going to tell me?" Cooper instantly went off on a tangent as soon as I opened the door. He brushed by me and I shut the door, locking the deadbolt back with a soft click.

"Oh, hello, good morning to you too." I rolled my eyes sarcastically as I spoke, opening the fridge and grabbing the half empty bottle of orange juice.

"I'm serious! You turned down Colby Brock. That's basically unheard of!" His voice was strained and the fact that he was so serious about the minor situation caused a laugh to escape my lips. Cooper crossed his arms over his chest and awaited my response to the topic at hand.

"Okay first of all, and not that I care either way, how did you find out? Why does it even matter?" I wondered, taking a sip of the orange juice straight from the bottle. Cooper cringed and took the bottle from my hands before pouring it into a glass. I took the glass from his outstretched hand with an amused smirk. I always knew how to push his buttons without even trying.

"The girl that invited Mason lives at that house. He mentioned something to her and word got back to me. Also, it's a big deal! Colby fucking Brock hit on you!" Cooper responded with wild hand gestures. I brought the glass to my lips and downed the rest of the drink before placing it into the sink next to me.

"Lots of guys hit on me, Coop. And he was cute and all but I just wasn't in the mood." I shrugged. It was true, though. I had found him extremely attractive, but something about the way my week has been made me reject him without a second thought. Cooper rolled his eyes.

"Oh, since when are you not in the mood?" He said, and I glared at him. "Not a bad thing! Not a bad thing at all, but come on Cami. You know I'm right." Maddox laid down next to me, his head resting on my feet.

"If the opportunity arose again, maybe I would consider it. Is that what you want to hear?" I spoke sarcastically. Cooper smiled and nodded.

"I was hoping you would say that, because we're all going out tonight and Colby is going to be there." Cooper smirked. I rolled my eyes slightly. Cooper has been a close friend of mine since we were in high school, but sometimes he could be a bit too pushy.

"Why are you so dead set on getting me with this dude?" I asked. Cooper followed me as I walked into my bedroom. My hands gripped the comforter as I pulled it up in an attempt to make it look less messy.

"Hun, you've been a little stressed recently. A fuck buddy could do you some good! He's not looking for anything, and you hate commitment." Cooper explained. Maybe he was right, but I wasn't going to give him that satisfaction.
