maybe if i leave during the summer break nobody will notice i'm gone, ron wondered alone, sitting in the stair steps. the street was empty, once it passed midnight.

"i'll notice" he turned back to find his friend starring at him. if ron even believed in best friends, carl would be it. he was ron's person; the one he could trust in every hour for everything.

"so you read minds now?" he jokes. carl gives him a brief smile.

"you're always thinking about leaving. it's not hard to guess."

ron watched as carl would snap his fingers between his legs.

"maybe we should do it together" the grimes offered. "but where would we go?"

"i was thinking about california."

"i could drive" carl said.

"no, i mean i wanna get to california alive" he jokes and receives a soft punch in his right arm.

"california is nice. it has beautiful beaches, but it's sweater weather most of time there."

"so what? you like cold."

"but you hate it."

"i can wait a few months for summer. i don't mind. as long as we're enjoying it in malibu or saint monica, it's fine to me."

"away from all this bullshit, right?"

"it would be cool."

"it would..." carl agrees, laying his head down ron's back for a minute.

"any news about your father?"

"no" carl denies. "still missing."

"that's pity."

"maybe for us," he gave his shoulders. "i think he's doing just fine. wherever he is."

"without you and judith?"

"i think he's better off without us anyway. parents need a break from their children sometimes."

"yeah... maybe if i disappear, mine will finally be happy. they would if wasn't born at all."

"don't say that" carl says. "you know you'd hate not to exist."

"why?" ron asks.

"'cause you wouldn't have me. that would be sad." ron laughs.

"alright. you're always right, talking cricket."

"i know" carl smiles. silence stands between 'em for one sec, but it's not uncomfortable at all. they enjoyed being around each other just to be. "y'know... my mom started to pray."

"i didn't know michonne was a believer."

"she is not. i mean... she just wants rick to be fine. alive, at least."

"don't you want it too?"

"i don't know. maybe i don't really care. as i said, i think he's doing fine. otherwise he'd be here. nobody leaves if there's not a reason to."

ron sighs.

"always right."

but the night was still young, so carl had a few ideas on his mind.

"hey... wanna go?"

ron looked at him, that pretentious smile on his face that would answer the where? question with a anywhere. that's how it was, as long as they were together, they would just go.
