Love, to humans, is unique in comparison to other species. Therefore, having a basic understanding of their origins is important. Humans, or Homo Sapiens, are the newest addition to the Intergalactic Alliance (IA). Although their initial introduction to the intergalactic community was turbulent (The Sentient Cold War), and the relationships between Earth Confederate (EC) and the IA are often strained, the species as a whole is recognised as being a welcome addition to the Universal Community.
One of their more unique traits, not often found in some of the other species, is their variation in mating relationships. There is no one fixed mating ritual, relationship dynamic, partner limitation or even genetic restriction to their own species. This results in positives and negatives for the species, as the intergalactic life can be uniquely hard on them.
As a general rule, they are highly sociable, making deep space travel particularly strenuous on their physical and mental health.
The first humans that settled on IA planets and stations, reportedly experienced extreme 'culture shock'. Initially sent out to develop positive political relationships with various species, the 'First Representatives' were chosen for their linguistic, xenology and astrobiology expertise. While used to studying and living in different cultures, the humans were unprepared for the duration of time they would be without other human contact. Some of the representatives began to struggle with their mental health, but were too far away for specialist treatment.
One representative, who had been placed with the Homo Homini Lupus contingent, was fairing far better than all the other humans. Through detailed logs, it came to light that the Lupus encouraged skinship with the human, and later encouraged closer relationships with the community.
While the other human representatives had been professional beyond reproach, it meant that they never felt truly settled with their IA counterparts. From this, further research supports that it's important that humans need to feel loved and valued. That they have a place where they belong. Otherwise, it can result in their slow mental deterioration.
Soon, the use of brothels became popular to help humans during deep space travel or during mining excursions. Unique to the human culture, the concept of sex as a service (as well as other diverse behaviours and interactions) was a new concept for the IA. However, the more sexual species soon found the benefit of such establishments, as long as ethical and moral issues were addressed. Once brothels were officially given legislation to protect staff and clients, the economy of this business boomed.
Far more was learnt about humans from seeing their interactions with others in their rawest form. It was then that the other IA species realised that humans, generally speaking, are not as open as others. For example, the Indus can sense the emotions of other people, thereby encouraging open and honest communication at all times. The Homo Homini Lupus have extremely acute senses, meaning that the majority of their communication is in fact done through body language and scent.
Due to not having either of the above traits, as well as a vastly diverse species and cultural norms, misunderstandings are highly likely. Verbal communication is their best tool - if the individual is not lying - and should be the primary form of communication with engaging with your human.
