It's in the middle of the night in the Solar Palace. Servants and midwives are scrambling about in a state of panic around the wide and open halls - grabbing anything and everything to aid them. Empress Natori of the Fire Kingdom in Rehaab was about to give birth to the heir.
She is in a bath holding the hand of the head midwife tightly. The midwives are collecting bloodied rags and trying to soothe the pained Empress. Other servants are returning with more linen and medicine, some with buckets of fresh water to change out the soiled pool. All move about with very tense and concerned faces.
Suddenly, a newborn baby's tiny cries fill the room. Everyone is stunned for a moment at the precious little sound.
"The Emperor bore a daughter!" Relays the midwife Kirakhet to the room full of ecstatic servants. "My dear Empress, your daughter is a Jewel!"
"Quickly - send for his Highness! He should have been here already!" calls Kirakhet's daughter, Nakhet whose helping her clean and wrap up the baby girl. After the little princess is bundled up in soft blankets, Nakhet places her in the Empress arms. She smiles and coos at her fussy newborn, then her face turns into that of confusion at the sight of her Piece.
"What's this...?" Empress Natori looks over at Kirakhet, with golden eyes. "I don't know what God this Piece belongs too, Kira. It's like there's no fire inside."
"Is it not the Carnelian?" The midwife takes a closer look at the baby's forehead. So do the surrounding servants, trying to get a peek at the infant's face.
"Oh Holy Solomon! It's clear! Almost colorless." gasps Kirakhet.
The enchanted Piece on the small forehead of the infant glowed softly. Her gem was like a clear piece of glass with small rainbow refractions inside.
"I've never seen such a chosen one before, this is unheard of..." Spoke out an elderly maid.
She took to cleaning the chamber to leave out before the Emperor arrived. The other servants took that as hint, that it's time to clean up and go. Knowing that Emperor Bakara would be coming any moment and would rush everyone out anyway.
Empress Natori looks down at her child, and gently presses a kiss on her cheek. Too happy and tired to be concerned of anything at the moment.
"This must mean something incredibly good, or very bad, is to come. What if her Piece holds no magic, dear?" Kirakhet somberly tells the Empress.
"Well... we won't know till she grows." The Empress kisses her daughter's Piece. "If she doesn't have fire inside her Piece then it must be a different gift. And she may still hold fire in her body and just be a stronger fire mage?" The Empress looks down at her baby's face.
