Chapter 7 | New day, same Vigilante

Start from the beginning

After taking a few steps back, I ran at an angle and kicked off of the wall. I then quickly grabbed onto the ladder once I was near enough to it. With a smirk, I swung myself up and grabbed the ledge of the fire escape. 'Like a goddamn monkey' I thought, snickering to myself as I pulled myself up. From here, I realised that I could walk up the rest with relative ease. I ran up stair after stair, flight after flight, and eventually I made it to the top. I stood tall on one corner of this building, and looked over the edge, admiring the city I lived in. But once I crouched down, I looked down to see a group. Not a large one mind you but still a bunch none the less, and they were picking on a guy. They weren't being very physical however, just poking him and prodding him. His face showed a mix of sadness, rage and helplessness. "How does a city so beautiful hold things so disgusting?" I wondered aloud, my gaze still fixed upon the group.
"Because that's just the way the world works" a voice from behind me said. As a reflex I drew my knife and opened it, pointing it at my assailant. "And you must have incredible eyesight to be able to see them" she added, completely unfazed.

I looked at this person properly to see a woman with pure white skin in a dark grey dress. She had black lipstick, heels, hair, stockings with garter belts and... 'PITCH BLACK EYES!?' I mentally exclaimed, in a mixture of fear and intrigue. Her eyes were as black as the night sky, and her skin was as white as an angel's wings. 'Is she...' I wondered. "Jane the Killer?" I continued out loud, my knife unmoving.
"Some people have called me that, but just 'Jane' is fine thank you. How did you know?" She asked, the curiosity in her voice genuine.
"Well, the porcelain white skin and the eyes darker than my hoodie kind of gave it away" I stated, putting on my 'vigilante voice'.
"While it's true I'm the only one with these features, how, and where, have you heard of me?" She asked, evidently having no knowledge of her online presence.
"Let's just say, I used to know a lot about you and the other Creepypastas" I said flatly. She seemed shocked and tensed up when I mentioned Creepypastas.

"Where did you hear that name?" Jane questioned, her tone becoming more stern as she reached behind her.
"What name?" I asked, acting clueless.
"Creepypasta. You said it, and I want to know where you heard it" she explained, her tone unchanging.
"You must be living under a rock if you haven't realised" I said, laughing a little at the start.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" She asked, slightly angered.
"Let's just say... I'm not the only one who knows" I said with a shrug.
"I should kill you. Right here, right now" she said, her black eyes piercing through me.
"May I ask, did you see what I did to little miss smiles last night?" I asked. Jane was said to hate Jeff, so I was hoping that the fact that I beat the shit out of someone who fit the description would put me on her good side.
"Wait, you do that to Jess?!" She asked, very shocked at what she heard.
"Unless something else happened to her yesterday, that was me alright" I said with a shrug. Before I knew it I was embraced in a tight hug from this killer/vigilante. My guess was that she was a massive softie, or my attack on Jess made her really happy.
"What you did was awesome!" She exclaimed, not letting me go. "That bitch acts so tough, but thank god you took her down a peg. That was amazing!" She added, still holding on.
"While I'm glad we're being friendly, can we not hug if you're gonna pretty much dangle me off a building?" I asked, my back foot slipping as I tried to keep myself planted on the roof.
"Whoops!" She said loudly, pulling me closer and onto some more solid ground. "Sorry about that, I got too excited" she added, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly.

"So her name's Jess... lost in translation I guess" I muttered to myself, rubbing my chin in thought.
"What was that?" Jane asked curiously.
"Nothing, just thinking out loud" I stated flatly.
"Oh, cool. Well, I think it's time I left. But before I go..." she trailed off and leaned close to my ear. "Tonight... Don't go to sleep. You won't wake up" she whispered, sending a chill down my spine and leaving me frozen as I watched her walk away from me and go inside.
'So I guess it's possible that they're all real?' I thought as I took another look over the city.
