"Kids, life, your track record, you finding a way to screw it up. Not wanting to hurt me?" He'd stated bluntly
"Hurting you is the last thing I want to do. Maybe that's the biggest reason"
"Do I make you happy Jac?"
"Very much" she'd held his gaze "and you know how I hate to be happy" she'd said trying to break the tension
"You make me happy" he'd said taking her hand "I could tell you every line of this hand, I've held it so often wondering if you were going to live or die"
A single tear rolled down her cheek
"If we make each other happy....." she hadn't been able to get the words out
"If we make each other happy.....? Go on"
Fletch had known what he wanted to hear but was scared she didn't feel it so he left it to her to speak
Jac had let a out a breath "if we make each other happy then I think we should be together"
He'd looked at her, silently questioning what she'd said
Eventually he'd spoken "God I hope you mean that Jac"
She'd laughed nervously "Do you feel the same?"
He'd leaned across and kissed her. This time she didn't push him away, didn't say he wasn't good enough. He was too good
"Jac" he'd murmured against her lips
"Mmmm" had been all she had been able to muster. After several minutes of passionate kissing they'd breathlessly parted
"Don't judge me Fletch but I want you to take me to bed" Jac had stated
Fletch had nearly choked "I mean I'm not going to say no to that but are you sure"
"We've been building up to this for a year - it's hardly a one night stand"
"Definitely not. It's a for however long you'll have me stand and we'll deal with the other stuff together and take it  slowly but this" he'd kissed her again "cannot wait another minute"
With that they'd gone up to Fletch's bedroom

A loud knocking interrupted Jac's day dream. She blushed at what she'd been thinking about
"Come in" she said composing herself
Sacha blustered in
"Right Naylor get your glad rags on we're going to a party"
Jac groaned. "Do we have to?"
"Absolutely we have to. Meet me downstairs in 2 hours"
"Ok" she said knowing she would not win this argument
