My Empire, My Emperor

The ship landed on the main ship after the short journey. I leave and am greeted by multiple soldiers lined up on either side and, most surprisingly, Emperor Zarkon and the 'witch' herself, Haggar. I approach and kneel with my head bowed.

"Rise kit. One of your skill set does not need such formalities," Emperor Zarkon says.

I rise, as ordered, and look up at my Emperor.

"You know you are to guard a high-value prisoner, correct?" I nod, "Good. I expect great things from you Kogane. Come, I will show you to where you shall be staying and then we will meet the prisoner."

I nod and follow my emperor, slightly behind him but not too far. We walk in silence except for the few times he points a few things out and tells me multiple facts. I couldn't believe that the emperor himself was my personal tour guide. The main ship is huge compared to the ship I was on previously. Then, we stop in front of a large door - well all doors are large when your tiny compared to the entire race but this door was bigger than most doors on the Empire's ships.

"This is where you shall be staying when you are not watching the prisoner," Emperor Zarkon says, motioning for me to open the door.

I walk forward and place my hand on the scanner. It scans my hand and accepts it with a, "Officer Keith Kogane. Access granted" and the door slides open.

"Wait, Officer?" I ask confused.

"Indeed. An appropriate rank for you, now that you're here. Like I said before, I expect great things from you Kogane," Emperor Zarkon says and I believe I see a ghost of a smile.

A giddy feeling rises in my chest as I walk in and I can't stop my eyes widening and jaw dropping and the "Whoa!" that escapes my mouth. My eyes immediately take in my surroundings. The walls are the same metal that makes up all the ships hallways but my quarters are huge - 21 feet long and 14 feet wide. There is a king-sized bed with black, red an purple sheets, a large closet, a desk and chair with a Galra computer and a small sitting area. Before, my room was only big enough for a bed and had a cabinet in the wall for clothes and personal items. My amazement and awe must be obvious because, after what seems like deca-phoebs but must've really been a few ticks, Emperor Zarkon speaks.

"I am glad you like your new quarters Kogane. I know you have few personal belongings so we shall wait outside whilst you put them away and then we can go to the hangar and meet the prisoner. You do not need to change your clothes until you get off duty."

I nod in reply and the Emperor Zarkon leaves followed by his shadow, Haggar, who turns to look at me with no emotion for a few ticks before leaving. I put my red jacket on my desk chair, my father's black jacket in the closet, my dagger, with the wrapping over the handle and emblem, in the drawer of my desk and my backpack under my bed. I take a deep breath in to prepare myself for Emperor Zarkon's presence - just being in his presence exhausts anyone and Haggar is at least 10 times worse - before walking out my door to see Emperor Zarkon and Haggar waiting. Emperor Zarkon nods and walks in the direction I presume is the way to the hangar where we are meeting the prisoner, followed closely by Haggar and me, on the opposite side to Haggar of course.

When we reach the hangar, soldiers are lined up at attention on either side of us. We walk down the pathway they made for us and stop at the very end, Emperor Zarkon slightly in front of me and Haggar. For some reason, he wants me by his side. I don't understand why: I'm a halfy, a no one, a nothing.

My thoughts are interrupted by a ship landing in front of us, voices heard from within and a figure appearing in the exit, flocked by multiple others. The figure stumbles out into light - presumably as a result of being shoved roughly out - and I am shocked by the face I recognise.
