CALL ME ARTHUR | t w o

Start from the beginning

"Who are you?" He asked her, he stared with wonder in his cerulean eyes. He found her beautiful and her honesty refreshing. Is she new to Camelot? He thought. For he felt like he could never have forgotten such a beautiful face.

"I'm just one of your subjects, m'lord," she curtsied once again and began to walk away, preparing herself to tell her uncle the bad news. She heard Arthur push Merlin into awaiting knight arms, telling them to take him away. "Her too?" They asked, but Arthur shook his head, watching her walk away with bewilderment, "No... tell me: who is she?"

Edelinne was too far away now to hear their conversation. Sir Leon cleared his throat, "That is my- Gaius's niece, Edelinne." Arthur nodded, not even noticing Leon's almost slip-up, his eyes not leaving her retreating from until she was too far away for him to see anymore, "When did she come to Camelot?" Leon couldn't help but roll his eyes, fortunate the Prince wasn't facing him," She was born here, Sire." Arthur then shook his head, as if to clear his thoughts from the daze that Edelinne had put him in, "She is beautiful." Leon couldn't help but nod, whispering under his breath, "Aye, she is."

"Uncle, I have failed you, I'm so sorry." Her eyes were downcast, filled with shame while Gaius stared at her in confusion. "What is the matter, Addy?"

"It's Merlin, he went toe to toe with Arthur and I wasn't quick enough to prevent him from being sent to the jail," she shuffled to her uncle and threw her arms around him, her heart filled with guilt and fear that she would lose the only person she knew that was like her. She felt so dejected. "The sun is setting, there is nothing we can do now. I will speak to King Uther in the morning."

Edelinne went to bed with no dinner that night, she couldn't bear the thought of eating while she felt it was her fault Merlin was in trouble. She couldn't help but wonder if she hadn't ran off to the river with Leon if things would be different for Merlin, or if Leon hadn't kissed her maybe he would have answered her pleading eyes when she begged for his help with Arthur. All she knew was that it was her fault this was happening, and, despite her gifts, she felt powerless to do anything that would help.

When Edelinne woke in the morning, Gaius was already gone, presumably off to save Merlin from the mess she created. She decided to go to her thinking place, the river just past Camelot's stone walls, despite the encounter that happened there yesterday. And as she walked that's when Arthur saw her.

He was staring out the window in his room, never waking up this early on a day where he didn't have to train, but his eyes had popped open and he felt drawn to look towards the square. He felt as if every piece of him being was being pulled to her. She was wearing a soft blue dress that swished with each step she took and he was mesmerized by her. She spun and faced the castle, and he could swear they locked eyes. He couldn't help but wonder, maybe she is drawn to him too? She turned away and began walking again and Arthur ran from the window and began to dress himself. He sprinted past Morris, the servant who was on his way to wake the Prince, and ran out of the castle. He eventually caught up to her, but he felt an emotion he was unfamiliar with bubble inside of him. She was walking with Sir Leon. Leon had reached out to touch her and Arthur felt himself recoil at Leon's actions, for reason unbeknownst to him. Arthur felt himself walk faster towards the pair until he heard words he wished he hadn't, "... the kiss we shared," fell from Leon's mouth and Arthur turned around, feeling confused and dejected, and began his trek back to the castle.

Edelinne couldn't help herself and scoffed at Leon and his attempts to speak with her. He had ran to catch up with her, begging to talk.
