I started walking towards my locker to put my books away, grabbing my lunch bag and book to read during lunchtime. I heard gum popping, heels clicking on the floor to see Hannah, walking in my direction. Her eyes viciously locked on mine. I turned away to try to text Mason before my locker door was slammed shut, making me jump and I locked my phone.

I shrieked at the loud noise. "Who do you think you are?" Hannah asked me.

"No one. Why?"

"Stay away from my boyfriend!" She demanded.

"Mason doesn't want anything to do with you." I insisted.

"Everyone knows that you are nothing but a worthless person. You don't belong here." Her two girlfriends giggled at her insults.

"Don't you think I know? It's because of people like you."

Without any second thoughts, I felt my body pushed against the lockers. The dial hit my back pretty hard and my head banged against the door. "You better not be going to the ball.  Mason and I are going to be the King and Queen at the ball. He is going to slow dance with me. Spin me around, holding each other close. And knowing him, he's going to lean in and kiss me. We are meant to be together." I couldn't help but feel tears piling up on my eyelids. I just want to escape. I ran away from her to realize I was stopped. Mason was behind me, catching me before running away any further. "You okay, babygirl?" I heard him whispering in my ear. I shook my head no as I hid my face, leaning against his chest. I felt his body tensed up, realizing that he shifted me away, walking towards Hannah.

"Leave her alone, Hannah," Mason demanded.

"Mason, baby, you know you miss me. Why don't you dump her and let me make you happy." She started to let her fingers climb up to his chest and he slapped it away. "I don't want you back. I broke up with you for a good reason. A good reason."

"I know you don't want to be with that nerd." I looked down to stare at my feet. I couldn't move. I felt numb. I held my book closer to my chest, holding on to it for dear life.

"I actually do what to be with her. I am with her. That's my girlfriend you're hurting. Enough is enough, Hannah." If a boy or a man is willing to do anything for you, he cares about you and he's trying to keep you in his life. My stepdad's advice replayed in my head. He really does care about me. He's proving that he's trying.

"Don't tell me she's your date to the ball?" Hannah laughed at him but he's not laughing at her or with her. His serious face was written all over him. "MASON! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU! I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE YOUR DATE!" She stomped her feet, throwing a temper tantrum like a child, crossing her arms across her chest, trying to show off and impress him.

"That's too bad", he mocked her. Everyone at school was laughing. I couldn't help but join them in the laughter.

"You'll regret this, Mason Steele. As for you, nerd," she looked over at me, pointing at me. "I'm not done with you." My fears consumed my mind. "No, you leave her alone and if you don't, watch what will happen." Mason roared at Hannah.
