Wanted To Say Goodbye

Start from the beginning

I put on a pair of black flats and headed to my lounge to wait for Dan and Phil. By the time they arrived, I was practically asleep on the couch.

"Let's go sleepy," Dan said.

"Yeah yeah just let me go grab bashful and sneezy first," I said and he rolled his eyes laughing slightly.

"Come on, Phil is in the cab, and who knows what might happen if we leave him alone with the driver," Dan said and I followed him down the stairs. "You look very beautiful by the way."

"I just woke up," I said, stroking my cheek where I thought that the 'sort of nap' had either smudged make up or left a red imprint.

"So?"

"Thanks," I said, blushing slightly under my foundation.

The drive was comforting and I had almost forgot where we were going. However, when we arrived at the busy looking venue, I began to get nervous again. Seeing old friends on top of a bunch of loud personality youtubers?

How about not?

"(Y/n)?" I glanced at Dan who had his hand out to help me out of the car as they had both already gotten out.

"Sorry," I apologized, taking his hand.

"You'll be fine," he reassured me as I got out. I shut the door with my free hand. I stayed gripping Dan's with my other hand while we walked in. "(Y/n) I kind of need my hand, besides people mistaking us for dating might make your evening worse."

"What?"

"I mean like having to explain to people would be bad," he said. Hmm, I had thought he was looking down on himself. Like he wasn't a good guy to date or be associated with.

We walked inside the venue, and there were all sorts of things going on. Dan led me in towards the back. I could see Zoe's hair from around the crowd and since I had already met up with her, I had no nerves so far. From what I could see there were a few more people and they didn't really concern me.

I was only truly nervous about accidentally running into Caspar. That would literally ruin everything. I put my hands before my back since Dan had taken away his. I had nothing to grip onto.

"Hey guys!!" Zoe called, hugging Dan, then Phil, then me. The group eased right back into conversation after we had arrived.

"(Y/n)!!" I turned around and Dodie came running towards me. I caught her hug with a small little grunt and a laugh.

"Jeez, don't break her," Zoe said.

"Hey Dodie," I said. She pulled back smiling.

"It's been too long!! Come get drinks with me?"

"Yeah, totally!" Her excited nature made me smile, hyping me up. I followed her, both of us chatting and getting fruity drinks.

"You honestly look so good!!! Did you come with Dan and Phil?""

"Thanks, you look good too, and yes I did."

"What ever happened all those years back?" She asked.

"Well, when I went off to school I lost touch with them, it was completely my fault, and when I got back to London to work on a movie, I ran into Zoe and she reconnected me with some people," I said.

"No, I mean with Dan," she said. I paused.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, I remember when we got back to school after winter break, he was the saddest I had ever seen him, and you had gone, I just thought they had to do with each other," she commented.

"Yeah, that was my fault, he was mad at me for leaving and we didn't talk for that whole time."

"He didn't catch you?"

"What?"

"I remember the day you were leaving, that morning Zoe, Hazel and I were at Phil's making food after everyone had said goodbye and when I went to get my phone from upstairs I caught Dan running to your house."

"What?"

"I just assumed he had caught your goodbye."

"If he wanted to say goodbye, why didn't he just call me once he saw I was gone?!"

"Maybe he wanted to say goodbye the right way, in person," she said. "He might have been mad, but he was sad after you officially left. He missed you and ended up upset."

"He wasn't mad all this time."

I felt my heart pound in my chest.

"I'm sorry, I thought you knew all this," she said.

"No, thank you, thank you, that's--that's perfect," I said, smiling. "I--excuse me I have to go to the restroom."

I ducked away from Dodie and ran quickly to the facilities, locking myself in a stall. My breath was heavy but shallow, a smile on my face.

"He wanted to say goodbye," I murmured.

What am I going to do now?"

I let out a sigh, knowing I could just ask him about it. I left the restroom, my heart warm, when I ran smack dab into someone.

"I'm so so--" I paused.

"(Y/n)?"

"Caspar."
